Arturo Angel Duran, 23, was charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or occupied vehicle, one count of negligent discharge of a firearm, three counts of child endangerment, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court information. The shooting occurred in the 14200 block of Cloverside Street. “During the investigation, officers learned the suspect, Arturo Duran (23 years), shot at his sister’s ex-boyfriend while his three daughters were seated in the back seat of the vehicle,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement. May 12, Baldwin Park Police located Duran with the help of the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force. Duran was residing in an area motel. Two women were staying with Duran at the time of the arrest. Stephanie Mendez, 25, was on probation and arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun. Vanessa Funston, 25 years, was arrested for an outstanding warrant, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. Duran was arraigned on the charges May 16. He is being held in lieu of nearly $1.1 million bail at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic ahead of a scheduled appearance at Rio Hondo Municipal Court June 2. Jase Puga, a Baldwin Park man, was booked on suspicion of meeting with a minor for lewd purpose, oral copulation with a minor, contacting a minor with intent to commit certain felonies and statutory rape, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. It is not quite clear in what capacity Puga served under as a coach. Staff at Sierra Vista High School, 3600 Frazier St., contacted police after being made aware of misconduct by an athletic coach, later identified as Puga. “An individual has been arrested, is no longer allowed on or near Baldwin Park Unified campuses and their employment has been terminated,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement. District protocols were reportedly followed prior to Puga’s hiring as a coach, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. Puga was arrested at 9:20 a.m. May 6. He posted $175,000 bail and was released May 6 at 11:06 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Officers with the department’s Gang Activity Prevention unit attempted a traffic stop March 18 in the 3700 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard around 5 p.m. A passenger in the vehicle fled on foot, box in hand, and the driver sped away, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. The passenger who fled on foot, 20-year-old Alfonso Maya, was caught and found in possession of two firearms. The brief vehicle pursuit ended in a solo crash at Live Oak Avenue and Baldwin Park Boulevard when the suspect struck a traffic light, according to Sgt. Mike Hemenway of the Baldwin Park Police Department. A gun clip and ammunition were reportedly recovered from the crashed vehicle. The driver, 20-year-old Izaac Velasco, and another passenger were taken to County/USC Medical Center for treatment. Velasco was eventually taken into custody and booked on suspicion of felony evading causing injury and evading in opposing lanes of traffic, Hemenway told SGV CityWatch. Maya was booked on suspicion of felony possession of a firearm, Hemenway told SGV CityWatch. Maya is being held without bail at the Men’s Central Jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Rio Hondo Municipal Court March 22. Velasco apparently remains hospitalized. His bail is set at $75,000, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Brandon Nagata , a 31-year-old Glendora man, was booked on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm on a peace officer, felony evading and driving on a suspended license, according to Officer Rodrigo Jimenez of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park office. Nagata was allegedly speeding westbound on the 60 freeway west of Grand Avenue around 1:08 a.m. Nagato refused to stop for officers and invaded police on the freeway, in excess of 120 mph and on surface streets at 80 miles per hour, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. The driver, later identified as Nagata, into a dead end on Stimson Avenue north of Valley Boulevard in city of industry. CHP officers use their patrol vehicles to box in Nagata into a chain link fence, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. Nagata posted bond, according to Los Angeles County booking records. He is scheduled to appear in court February 4. Officers responding to a call of a person down in a parking lot in the 12600 block of Ramona Boulevard around 9:39 p.m. He was pronounced dead after being hospitalized, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The Sheriff’s Department states there is no suspect or vehicle description. The Murder weapon is outstanding. The drive-by erupted in the 13600 block of Olive Street October 21. The shooting caused damage to two vehicles. Gunfire also damaged the wrought iron gate at a residence, according to Sgt. Berumen of the Baldwin Park Police Department. A black vehicle was seen fleeing east on Olive Street after the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unclear. The victim was not cooperative with investigators, Berumen told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A man accused of attempted murder, criminal threats and elder abuse was arrested Thursday after an alleged fight that briefly hospitalized a police officer.
Officers responded to a battery investigation at the Grand Park Inn, 13921 Francisquito Ave. at 6:42 p.m. September 16. Officers attempted to detain a suspect who ultimately resisted and fought with them, according to Sgt. Jorge Huerta of the Baldwin Park Police Department. Both officers were injured and treated for their injuries. One was hospitalized and both will recover. The suspect was also injured and treated, Huerta told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an executive officer. For the initial battery call, the suspect was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse and criminal threats. Huerta declined to provide the suspect’s name, age and city of residence. The attack occurred around 12:50 p.m. August 31 in the 14900 block of Jeremie Street. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call of an axe attack and a woman who was wounded, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. The woman sustained serious injuries after being hit numerous times with the axe. A man was able to escape uninjured after the suspect advanced on him, Baldwin Park Police said. “The suspect was located nearby and, when confronted by officers, threatened to harm himself while holding a knife to his neck. Officers were able to disarm him without any use of force and take him into custody,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement. The suspect, 20-year-old Baldwin Park man Feregrino Adrian, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Police responded to a shooting early Wednesday morning at Puente Avenue and Merced Avenue and located the wounded woman. She was treated at the scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and then taken to a hospital, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. The gunman and any possible additional suspects fled the area before officers arrived, Baldwin Park Police said. Fabian Jamies Davalos, 21, allegedly crashed at an unsafe speed into the rear of a semi that slowed down for traffic on the westbound I-10 freeway west of Pacific Avenue August 28. The passenger was ejected in the crash and died at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol. The passenger was identified as 19-year-old Dayanna Tamayo. She died from blunt force head trauma, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The crash occurred around 3 a.m. The driver of a 2021 International A26 was in the No. 4 and began slowing for traffic due to a temporary construction closure affecting the HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes of the I-10 freeway. Jamies Davalos, in a 2016 Honda Accord, slammed into the back of the International A26, according to the CHP. Jamies Davalos was treated for minor injuries at County/USC Medical Center. The semi’s driver was uninjured. A Sig Alert, issued at 3:41 a.m., affected the HOV, No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 lanes of traffic until 6:15 a.m. |
