An officer responded to a medical emergency in the 1200 block of Cienega Avenue Thursday around 1:30 p.m. and found a 32-year-old man in a garage, not breathing, Covina Police said. Officer G. Lizarraras began CPR after he found no signs of life. Evidence of narcotic paraphernalia was near the man, so Lizarraras administered Naloxone, a nasal spray used to inhibit opioid overdoses and also administered chest compressions, Covina Police said.
Soon after, the man began gasping for air and a faint pulse was detected. Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived to transport the man to a hospital for further treatment. Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 6:37 a.m. in the 500 block of La Serena Drive April 8. All occupants evacuated the home before firefighters arrived. Flames were knocked down at 7:05 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was contained to a garage. The fire’s cause is under investigation. The 10 employees are all suffering minor side effects from fumes wafting over from a nearby roofing operation in the 1300 block of North Grand Avenue. Firefighters were called just before 2 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The address is a Department of Motor Vehicles Business Service Center. Three ambulances have been called to the scene, firefighters report.

Police were called to the home around 4:49 p.m. in the 200 block of East Center Street. When they entered the home, police discovered the bodies, according to Sgt. John Zumwalt of the Covina Police Department. The victims’ identities were unknown. How the victims died was not disclosed.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA – A woman found half-naked and with blood splatters on her body is connected to the discovery of a dead child found in a burning townhouse Friday morning. The child was discovered after officers questioned the woman found running down the road in the 300 block of North Second Avenue, January 11 around 3:30 a.m. The woman was uncooperative when questioned, according to the Covina Police Department. A patrol sergeant found the woman, according to Sgt. David Rodriguez of Covina Police.
While detectives are not yet certain, they believe the woman to be the child’s mother, Rodriguez said.
The woman made statements alluding to a victim, but officers could not get a residence from her, Covina Police said. Officers finally learned the woman’s address and upon arrival, found visible flames from the second-floor unit and soon discovered a dead child within the townhouse, located at 141 E. Italia St. Covina officers summoned firefighters, who arrived on scene at 3:47 p.m. and knocked down flames four minutes later, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department representative. The woman is still being evaluated, Rodriguez said. The silver truck rolled over and came to rest on the front lawn of Charter Oak High School, 1430 E. Covina Blvd., around 7:35 a.m. The driver died at the scene, according to Lt. Trevor Gaumer of the Covina Police Department. Preliminary information suggests the driver suffered a medical emergency, which caused the crash, Gaumer said. The girl was transported to an area hospital after being extracted from the truck with the jaws of life, Gaumer said. Eastbound Covina Boulevard near the high school is blocked during the collision investigation.

COVINA - A reported stabbing victim was hospitalized after ending up at a Jack In the Box late Monday night.
The man wandered into Jack In the Box, 912 N. Azusa Ave., some time after 10:30 p.m. January 8. The man seemed unaffected by the fact that he was stabbed and bleeding, according to a Jack In the Box employee. “He walked in silently like nothing was wrong with him. He asked for a water cup and I said ‘do you need medical attention?’ He didn't respond. He continued to fill up his water cup,” according to Jack In the Box employee Ariel Arencibia. “I thought it was a joke so I went to the back and got on the line immediately with Covina [Police].
The man then left and walked to McDonald’s.
Officers found the bleeding man at Azusa Avenue and Cypress Street. He told them he had been stabbed, according to Sgt. Mike Colburn of the Covina Police Department. Colburn did not have any further information. Firefighters were summoned by police. The man was transported to an area trauma center, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a residence in the 1400 block of North Grand Avenue Friday at 7:30 p.m. The caller said a 33-year-old man stopped breathing after a drug overdose, the Covina Police Department said in a written statement.
“CPR was started by the reporting party until officers arrived. Officers continued CPR, deployed nalaxone HCL (Narcan) nasal spray medication to the victim and the victim began breathing,” Covina Police.
The man was transported to an area hospital by Los Angeles County Firefighters. He was subsequently released after receiving treatment, Covina Police said. All lanes are open on the west Interstate 10 freeway west of Via Verde Drive after the collision briefly closed all lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. At least two vehicles collided, with one ending up in the center divider and a dark sedan overturning in the slow lane around 6:25 p.m. Earlier reports indicated possibly seven vehicles crashed. The occupant in the overturned vehicle was pulled out unconscious. The No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes were booked to traffic long enough to force impatient drivers to exit the freeway via the Kellogg Drive onramp, the CHP said. At least one patient was taken to an area hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The crash was reported around 4:35 p.m. on Azusa Avenue near Glentana Street. Two occupants in the vehicle were transported by ground ambulance in critical condition. One occupant suffered minor injuries, according to Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is unclear what direction the vehicle was traveling and unclear what caused the crash. A Covina Police supervisor was unable to provide anymore information. |
