Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Four of five teen girls who attempted to carjack a woman of her tan Toyota Camry were arrested late Sunday evening, police said. The five suspects, ranging in age from 15 to 17 years old, approached the woman as she exited her car at Maine Avenue and Clark Street just before 6 p.m. March 10. They asked her for the keys to her car and assaulted her as she attempted to flee, said Sgt. Gonzales of the Baldwin Park Police Department. The victim was assaulted and hit with pepper spray, Gonzales said.
All five suspects ran into a nearby townhome complex after the victim secured herself inside the car. “Several witnesses contact the police and gave us their direction of travel,” Gonzales said. “Officers ended up catching up to them at Baldwin Park Boulevard just north of Ramona Boulevard.” The victim was only able to identify three of the five suspects. Those three were booked on suspicion of attempted carjacking and are being held in Las Padrinos Juvenile hall in Downey. One of the unidentified suspects spit on an officer’s pants. She was cited and released to her parents, Gonzales said. The second unidentified teen was one of the suspects in a successful carjacking in Covina February 25. She was detained until Covina officers arrived to the scene to arrest her in connection with their carjacking caper, Gonzales said. The victim was treated at the scene for her injuries. |
