Officers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at high speed near Valley Boulevard and Grandview Drive, but the driver refused to stop, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Once the driver stopped, the suspects fled on foot on Walnut Grove Avenue when officers approached the vehicle, but were soon caught. “During a vehicle search, several catalytic converters, cordless saws, saw blades, and other burglary tools were discovered inside,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Jonathan Rosas, a Fontana resident, and a juvenile passenger were arrested. Johnny Longoria, a Whittier resident, was caught in possession of the stolen tools and was driving with a suspended license, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Officers were conducting a surveillance operation near Valley Boulevard and Curtis Avenue due to a rise thefts, according to the Alhambra Police Department. “During the investigation, it was discovered that Longoria was also connected to a previous grand theft incident in July. Merchandise from another Harbor Freight store in Whittier was found in his vehicle,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Longoria, 24, is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles. His next scheduled court appearance is October 5 in Alhambra Municipal Court. The theft of tires from a silver Kia sedan occurred in the 2400 block of Avondale Drive, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The man is described as a Latino in his 30s. He wore a red shirt, brown pants and black and white shoes. The woman is described as a Latina in her 30s. She wore a red tank top with black shorts. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Officers discovered the bodies of a man and woman inside their home April 20 after receiving a call from a concerned citizen who had not heard from the couple in days.
The deaths were discovered in a single-family home in the 900 block of North Almansor Street. Police were called to check on the residence at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. While checking the home, officers found an unlocked back door with no signs of forced entry and went inside where they found the bodies, according to the Alhambra Police Department. “The initial investigation indicates the female was a homicide victim and the male committed suicide. Evidence located at the scene indicates this was a murder/suicide and it is believed there is no risk to the public,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Susie Lee Yeh and David Yeh, both 56, were identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Examinations have not yet been scheduled. The pedestrian, described as a 60 to 65-year-old woman, was hit around 2:13 p.m. at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and San Marino Avenue April 11. A driver made a left turn from westbound San Marino Avenue to southbound Garfield Avenue and struck the pedestrian who suffered major injuries, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The woman was transported to a hospital and later died. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with traffic investigators. Officers responded to a gunfire call just before 9:30 p.m. to South Almansor Street and East Bay Street. They found a Black man in his 40s with gunshot wounds to his upper torso and still alive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies near the I-10 freeway and Fremont Avenue attempted to stop the vehicle around 7:44 p.m. after learning it was stolen. The driver led police on a chase along surface streets into Alhambra, according to Lt. Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Deputies ended the chase after losing sight of the vehicle. Deputies were soon notified that a man and woman were seen running in the area of North Bushnell Avenue and Larch Street, but a perimeter search was fruitless. The stolen vehicle information revealed whoever took the ride was considered armed and dangerous, Hernandez told SGV CityWatch. The burglary occurred February 20 at Atherton Baptist homes, 214 S. Atlantic Blvd., around 6:30 p.m. The suspect was caught on surveillance cameras entering the employee lounge and took the purse, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The suspect then attempted to use the employee’s credit cards. It is not publicly known if he was successful in using them. The suspect has since been booked on suspicion of burglary. Just after 11:30 p.m. December 20, officers attempted to stop a high-speed driver in the 2400 block of West Valley Boulevard. Minutes after the pursuit began, Alhambra police dispatchers were told that an armed takeover robbery occurred at a restaurant in the 1700 block of West Valley Boulevard, according to the Alhambra Police Department. During the pursuit, the driver lost control of his vehicle and spun 180 degrees. The driver allegedly accelerated, rammed an Alhambra Police patrol vehicle and then continued to flee, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The pursuit ended in Los Angeles in the area of Valley Boulevard and Cavanaugh Road where the driver spun out. Both the driver and passenger fled onto some nearby railroad tracks. With the help of a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter, both suspects were arrested without further incident. An employee of the restaurant that was robbed told police that two suspects entered, ordered all employees down to the ground at gunpoint. Money was taken from the restaurant and from the employees, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Property located in the suspect’s vehicle, including a loaded firearm, allegedly tied both driver and passenger to the restaurant robbery. Lancaster man David Saravia, 23, and Maywood man Tomas Marcos, 22, were arrested. Amongst the charges are robbery, assault with a deadly on a peace officer, kidnapping and undisclosed weapons violations. Saravia is being held without bail on a California Department of Corrections hold. Marcos is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Both men are scheduled for a December 23 appearance in Alhambra Municipal Court. |
