CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - An alleged drunk driver was arrested September 7, accused of striking a parked vehicle on an Alhambra street. The arrestee, 66-year-old Sergio Vazquez of Los Angeles, allegedly crashed into an occupied parked vehicle in the area of Palm Avenue and Teagarden Lane. When officers spoke to Vazquez, they detected a strong smell of alcohol, according to the Alhambra Police Department. In addition, Vazquez allegedly displayed signs of intoxication and open beer containers were found in his vehicle. Vazquez was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. The District Attorney’s Office had different plans, apparently. Vazquez was set to appear in court September 10, but was released with the explanation “DA reject per 849.5 pc. A detention only,” according to Los Angeles County booking records. California Penal Code 849.5 states “In any case in which a person is arrested and released and no accusatory pleading is filed charging him with an offense, any record of arrest of the person shall include a record of release. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A 15-year-old former Alhambra Unified School District student was arrested, accused of authoring an Instagram post threatening multiple shootings at district schools. The former student was arrested without incident and booked on suspicion of felony criminal threats. Officers were notified of the threatening posts the evening of September 10. The post reportedly identified multiple Alhambra Unified Schools and several others in the San Gabriel Valley, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Alhambra Police detectives and school resource officers identified the student and arrested him September 13 after a search warrant was served at multiple residences through the work of detectives and the department’s SWAT team, according to the Alhambra Police Department. “The Alhambra Police Department believes the sole person responsible for the post was arrested and there are no outstanding suspects being sought at this time. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A theft suspect arrested in Alhambra probably has a better chance of stealing home plate than stealing clothes after getting caught allegedly stealing merchandise from a store. The alleged theft took place at Kohl’s, 1201 S. Fremont Ave. Jonathan Sanchez, a Huntington Park resident, is accused of stuffing two Dodgers jerseys into his waistband and taking two shirts up to the checkout aisle. Sanchez then allegedly left the shirts behind and walked out with the hidden jerseys. Officers located Sanchez and detained him near a gas station, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Sanchez was also found with allegedly stolen fragrances. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - In what is becoming a more common tool for burglars, a hidden camera was found planted in a residential yard June 17. The camera found in the 1900 block of S. Primrose Ave. was planted in a yard and was pointed at a house that was the scene of an attempted burglary, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The neighbor of the burglary victim discovered the camera nestled in some bushes. The victim’s burglary alarm company also received an alarm activation of an attempted break-in through the kitchen window earlier that day, according to the Alhambra Police Department. “Unfortunately, camouflage cameras are a tactic being used in residential burglaries. These cameras are strategically placed in discrete areas, such as bushes, to allow thieves to gather information about homeowners' daily routines to burglarize their homes,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Two juveniles survived a shooting Friday afternoon. First responders were called to the 800 block of South Sierra Vista Avenue Friday, May 31 around 4:39 p.m. Officers discovered two juvenile males who suffered wounds considered not life-threatening. Three male suspects were seen fleeing the location shortly after gunfire was heard, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The three suspects left in what was described as a dark-colored sedan. The wounded juveniles are listed in stable condition. Anyone with information on this shooting is urged to call the Alhambra Police Department Investigations Division at 626-570-5157. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Two West Covina residents and a Los Angeles resident were arrested and booked on suspicion of residential burglary April 19.
Two suspects are accused of entering a residential rear yard in the 600 block of North Olive Avenue. They forced entry into a rear window while a third suspect knocked on the front door as a distraction, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Someone notified the Alhambra Police Department and as officers arrived to the house, one of the suspects jumped into a waiting vehicle and drove away, but were stopped. West Covina residents Jessica Vanessa Charris Rojas, 30, and Edson Rubio Diaz, 31 were taken into custody. Also arrested was Los Angeles resident David Murcea, 31. All three suspects have since been charged with first-degree burglary. Rubio and Murcea were released on bond. Charris remains in custody. All are scheduled for an appearance in Alhambra Superior Court May 15, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Detectives on a stakeout caught a driver who eluded South Pasadena and Alhambra officers multiple times.
Lawrence White, a 28-year-old Pasadena resident, was caught in that city March 13 after detectives learned his location and waited for the suspect to reveal himself, according to the Alhambra Police Department. White is accused of evading South Pasadena Police officers who attempted to perform a traffic stop on him March 1, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. During the South Pasadena pursuit, White is accused of striking another vehicle at Huntington Drive in Fremont Avenue. He continued to flee and allegedly ran a red light, according to the Alhambra Police department. Alhambra Police officers located the suspect on three separate occasions and also attempted to stop him, but he continued to flee at high rates of speed, failing to stop at multiple stop signs and deliberately disregarded the safety of others through his reckless driving, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Once White was detained, officers searched his vehicle and found a loaded firearm in the glove compartment, according to the Alhambra Police Department. White was officially charged in court with two counts of felony evading a police officer, one count of misdemeanor hit and run causing property damage and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, according to Superior Court records. White is being held in Lou of $150,000 bail at the twin towers correctional facility in Los Angeles. He made an initial appearance on March 15 and is scheduled to reappear in Alhambra, Superior Court April 2. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A woman was seriously injured January 18 after her ex emerged from her vehicle with a handgun and allegedly kidnapped her, forcing her to drive from Pasadena to Alhambra.
A concerned friend received a call from the woman who was heard arguing with a man. After the call dropped, the friend notified Alhambra Police Dispatch around 6:30 a.m. During a search for the woman’s vehicle near her residence, the woman’s son notified officers about a call he received from her, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The son said his mother was still with the ex, identified as 43-year-old Alhambra resident Clemente Enrique Contreras. Clemente allegedly followed the victim to Pasadena and was waiting in the back seat of her vehicle. He also allegedly forced her to drive to Alhambra, hitting her several times in the head, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Officers located the woman’s vehicle at Almansor Street and Ross Avenue where the suspect exited, allegedly still armed with a handgun. The woman drove away. Contreras allegedly refused to surrender. “Officers secured the scene and attempted to de-escalate the situation. After almost an hour of negotiation, Clemente Contreras of Alhambra, CA, dropped his weapon and was taken into custody,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Contreras was booked on suspicion of domestic violence, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and false imprisonment, according to Lt. Grant Spencer of the Alhambra Police Department. Contreras is being held in lieu $1.25 million at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility ahead of a scheduled appearance in the Alhambra Courthouse January 22. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A juvenile and three adults were arrested January 5, allegedly caught with more than $2500 worth of products taken from a CVS pharmacy.
The suspects fled CVS on Valley Boulevard, but officers located their vehicle westbound on Ramona towards Elm Street. It entered the westbound I-10 freeway and officers conducted a traffic stop at the Soto Street exit in Los Angeles, according to the Alhambra Police Department. After discovering the more than $2500 worth of products inside of the vehicle, officers learned the suspects allegedly committed the same crime in Monterey Park, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Eric Johnson, a 33-year-old Los Angeles man, Antoine Dewayne Martin, a 20-year-old Canoga Park man, Kamoriana Diamond Wilks, an 18-year-old Lancaster woman and a female juvenile were arrested. The three adult suspects were all booked and released, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The fate of the juvenile is not publicly known. The driver of a truck was stopped, accused of running a red light in the area of Commonwealth Avenue and Date Avenue some time around 10:15 p.m. As an officer approached the truck, the passenger bailed, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The officer gave chase and eventually the suspect was subdued. Jesse Ramos, 36, and Juan Ramon Alvarez, 57, were arrested. “Further investigation revealed that the suspects had just committed a burglary at Target moments before the stop,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. At least one of the suspects was in possession of methamphetamine, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Both suspects were booked and released. They are scheduled to appear in the Alhambra Courthouse March 8. |
