The crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. Early reports from the scene indicated flames were coming from the rear of the occupied bus, but it is unknown if the fire originated from the bus or the other vehicle. A Sig Alert has been called for an unknown duration for the westbound express lanes and No. 1 and 2 lanes, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the California Highway Patrol.
Passing motorists reportedly stopped to help extinguish the fire. As CHP officers arrived on scene, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames. Multiple eyewitness reports indicated the driver did not exit the vehicle, Brandt said. The death was not confirmed until firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire, according to the CHP. Alhambra firefighters were called to the scene. It is unclear if anyone on the bus was injured, or which agency the bus belonged to.
