Officers responded to a gunfire call just before 9:30 p.m. to South Almansor Street and East Bay Street. They found a Black man in his 40s with gunshot wounds to his upper torso and still alive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Alhambra Police officers responded to multiple calls of gunfire and a gunshot victim in the 400 block of North Atlantic Boulevard around 6:13 p.m. They found a Latino man with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Alhambra Firefighter paramedics declared him dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is not publicly clear if Homicide investigators determined a motive or have identified a suspect. Police found the wounded male in the 1100 block of N. Garfield Ave. around 10:09 p.m. July 10. Officers performed CPR until Alhambra Fire Department medics arrived to take over care, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Investigators have yet to reveal the age range of the victim. Officers were originally dispatched to the 1100 block of N. Garfield Ave. to investigate a report of shots fired, Alhambra Police said. Zhong Qi Chen, 59, from El Monte, faces one count of murder with allegations that he personally used a handgun and caused great bodily injury and death, according to Paul Eakins of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Chen pleaded not guilty at his appearance n Alhambra Superior Court November 26. Chen allegedly shot and killed Yining Xie, 58, on the property of The China Press, 2121 W. Mission Rd. Xie died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The shooting was over a dispute between the two, but the specifics of the dispute remain hidden. Chen was found and arrested at the scene, Alhambra Police said. Chen faces 50 years to life in prison if convicted as charged. Bail has been set at $6 million. He is scheduled to return to court December 18. |
