The pedestrian, described as a 60 to 65-year-old woman, was hit around 2:13 p.m. at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and San Marino Avenue April 11. A driver made a left turn from westbound San Marino Avenue to southbound Garfield Avenue and struck the pedestrian who suffered major injuries, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The woman was transported to a hospital and later died. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with traffic investigators. Any witnesses to this collision, or anyone who may have additional information is urged to call the Alhambra Police Department Traffic Section at 626-570-5119. Police and firefighters responded to Chengu Taste, 828 W. Valley Blvd., around 1:26 p.m. November 18. Three victims were transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries and three other victims were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The driver, who remained at the scene and is speaking to investigators, allegedly attempted a left turn onto eastbound Valley Boulevard and mistook the gas pedal for the breaks, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Valley Boulevard between Atlantic Boulevard and South Seventh Street will be closed for several hours, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Authorities rescued a 22-year-old autistic man September 4 after he ran onto FasTrak lanes while fleeing from a vehicle. The man ran from a stopped vehicle occupied by his mother and therapist at Garfield and Hellman avenues around 7 p.m. Wednesday. The man fled into the I-10 freeway, which had to be shut down, Alhambra Police said.
Alhambra Police and the California Highway Patrol shut down the freeway to keep the man safe. Fearing further transport on the freeway and using restraints would be unsafe for the man, the Alhambra and San Gabriel fire departments were called and transported the man, Alhambra Police Said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A train has hit a pedestrian who possibly jumped from the Almansor Street overpass onto the Metrolink railroad tracks. The California Highway Patrol has all lanes stopped until a flare pattern is set up, according to CHP traffic logs. Metrolink sent an alert via social media at 10:12 p.m. about a train stoppage between Cal State University Los Angeles and El Monte due to striking a person on the tracks.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene just after 10:33 p.m. July 31. Alhambra Police officers may possibly be taking over the investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - The driver of a red Corvette was hospitalized after crashing into a light pole Sunday. The crash occurred on South Fremont Avenue north of West Mission Road around 8:42 a.m. when the Corvette left the road and hit the pole, according to the Alhambra Police Department and Alhambra Fire Department.
No other vehicles were involved inn the crash. The extent of injuries to the driver are unclear. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - One person has died in a vehicle fire after crashing into the rear of a bus on the westbound I-10 freeway east of Fremont Avenue. The crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. Early reports from the scene indicated flames were coming from the rear of the occupied bus, but it is unknown if the fire originated from the bus or the other vehicle. A Sig Alert has been called for an unknown duration for the westbound express lanes and No. 1 and 2 lanes, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the California Highway Patrol.
Passing motorists reportedly stopped to help extinguish the fire. As CHP officers arrived on scene, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames. Multiple eyewitness reports indicated the driver did not exit the vehicle, Brandt said. The death was not confirmed until firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire, according to the CHP. Alhambra firefighters were called to the scene. It is unclear if anyone on the bus was injured, or which agency the bus belonged to. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Police and firefighters rescued a female who climbed to the outside of a pedestrian bridge and attempted to jump Saturday afternoon. Officers responded to the Marguerita Avenue pedestrian bridge around Noon April 20 and found the female on the outside of the fencing as she climbed her way over to westbound lanes, Alhambra Police said. All lanes of the I-10 freeway were closed by the California Highway Patrol while officers worked to save the female.
Officers used restraints to secure the female’s body to the chain link fencing. The female stepped off the ledge and went limp in an attempt to fall, but officers held on, Alhambra Police said. A hole was cut through the chain link for an officer to hold onto the female until firefighters arrived with a ladder truck. The female was lowered to the ground and was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation, Alhambra Police said. The female was soon reunited with her family. The crash occurred around 1:53 a.m. at South Palm Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue September 23. The passenger was found trapped inside the car, suffering from a possible broken leg, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the woman from the car and she was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The 41-year-old driver from Monterey park was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony DUI charges. The Camaro spun out on the I-10 freeway eastbound at South Fremont Avenue around 10:22 a.m. The crash damaged about 50 feet of guardrail on the right shoulder, requiring a closure of the No. 5 lane until about 1 or 2 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. |
