Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - The driver of a stolen vehicle was hospitalized Wednesday after crashing into cement barriers while evading an Alhambra officer. The suspect was being followed by east on the I-10 freeway from Alhambra to as far as Baldwin Avenue where the officer lost sight of the suspect who took to surface streets, Alhambra Police said. The officer originally saw the suspect perform a traffic violation just before 11 p.m. ar Fremont Avenue and Montezuma in Alhambra and soon discovered through a license plate check the vehicle was stolen, Alhambra Police said.
The suspect was followed by police just before 11 p.m. Alhambra officers located the mangled wreck of a that collided into K-rails at El Monte Station, 3501 Santa Anita Ave. Los Angeles County Firefighters had to extricate the driver from the heavily damaged vehicle. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - The cause of a fire that destroyed three attached garages and left three apartment units uninhabitable is being investigated. The fire burned at 777 E. Valley Blvd. September 22. Firefighters were dispatched at 5:44 p.m. Firefighters immediately began attacking the fire while other firefighters began checking apartment units for extension of flames, according to Battalion Chief Doug Shonkwiler of the Alhambra Fire Department.
The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes, Shonkwiler said. There was only minimal extension into an apartment unit. Several people at the scene were treated for lightheadedness. Shonkwiler did not know yet a dollar amount in damage to the structures and contents. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Authorities rescued a 22-year-old autistic man September 4 after he ran onto FasTrak lanes while fleeing from a vehicle. The man ran from a stopped vehicle occupied by his mother and therapist at Garfield and Hellman avenues around 7 p.m. Wednesday. The man fled into the I-10 freeway, which had to be shut down, Alhambra Police said.
Alhambra Police and the California Highway Patrol shut down the freeway to keep the man safe. Fearing further transport on the freeway and using restraints would be unsafe for the man, the Alhambra and San Gabriel fire departments were called and transported the man, Alhambra Police Said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Police re-arrested a man August 29 after he was initially arrested at a traffic stop for possessing illegal guns. Arvin Puri, 51, was initially arrested August 7 after officers discovered unserialized, self-assembled weapons referred to as “ghost guns” inside his vehicle, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Additional firearms were seized during a search warrant at Puri’s residence.
Alhambra detectives and federal authorities determined that Puri was prohibited from possessing firearms in California, prompting police to arrest Puri again while he was freed and awaiting arraignment, Alhambra Police said. In 2018, law required “Ghost guns” to be registered with the California Department of Justice. Unserialized, unregistered firearms are extremely difficult to track. |
