CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Police announced the arrest of a suspect who is accused of stabbing someone January 6. The suspect was identified within hours of the stabbing, but wasn’t found until January 28 in the City of Glendale, according to the Alhambra Police Department. With the assistance of Glendale Police, Eriberto Paiz, 56, from Los Angeles, was taken into custody. A stabbing occurred near Atlantic Boulevard and Spruce Street January 6. The suspect fled prior to officers' arrival. A nearby school was placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition after the stabbing, but information on their current condition is not immediately known. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A Rosemead man was arrested, accused of cutting up two roommates during fisticuffs at dinner time. One victim was stabbed in a bicep, the other was stabbed in one of his forearms. The fisticuffs unfolded in the kitchen and one of the victims attempted to intervene, leading to a double stabbing, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The incident occurred July 11 near East El Molino Street and North Grand Avenue. After the attack, the suspect fled in an unknown direction, but Alhambra Police detectives tracked down 41-year-old Lihua Peng after locating his car in El Monte. He was arrested during a traffic stop. Peng was officially charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and a special allegation of causing great bodily injury, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Peng has since appeared twice in court and pleaded not guilty. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Investigators arrested two suspects during a robbery and stolen vehicle investigation. During a search of a residential property, investigators discovered two more stolen vehicles unrelated to the initial crimes, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The suspects were arrested July 10 and the vehicles were recovered in Rosemead. The victim of the vehicle theft in Alhambra was walking back to his car after a gym sesh near South 3rd Street and West Main Street when unknown suspects approached. A weapon was pointed at him. his personal belongings were taken and his vehicle driven in an unknown direction, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Jesus Carreon, 20, and Clara Garcia, 56, both Rosemead residents. Carreon is being held in lieu of $175,000 bail at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic. He is scheduled for an appearance in Alhambra Superior Court August 11. Garcia was issued a citation and released. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A teller’s intuition led to the arrest of a man accused of stealing $25,000 from his victim’s bank account. Curtis Graham, a 51-year-old New Jersey man, allegedly used fraudulent identification and ATM card to withdraw the cash from a Bank of America, 444 E. Valley Blvd. Graham then allegedly attempted to withdraw even more money from a savings account June 28, according to the Alhambra Police Department. “The teller grew suspicious of the unusually large withdrawal and asked some questions to verify the account. The suspect became nervous and left in a panic,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Things allegedly got physical between the teller and Graham when the suspect was followed outside the bank. Officers arrived and took Graham into custody. Graham was officially charged with second-degree robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, theft from an elder/dependent adult, identity theft, false personation and possessing a false or altered driver license. Graham pleaded not guilty July 7. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Two men from Los Angeles were caught in a stolen vehicle through the help of an Apple AirTag. Officers tracked the AirTag signal to an alley in Los Angeles June 19 and two suspects were found chillin’ inside, allegedly found with keys used to start the car, methamphetamine, non-prescribed Adderall, pepper spray and a meth pipe, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The owner of a black sedan parked her vehicle and locked it, but discovered it was stolen sometime later that same day, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Arrested were Mario Alfredo Huitron and Honorio De La Torre. Huitron, 31, was charged June 23 with receiving a stolen vehicle and additionally charged for having a prior auto theft conviction. He pleaded not guilty, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. De La Torre, 36, was issued a citation and released, according to Los Angeles County booking records. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A fake funeral and pleas for donations led to the arrest of a father and his child February 18. Patrol officers spotted the juvenile flashing a funeral donation sign at Valley Boulevard and Fremont Avenue. When pressed with questions from the officers, the juvenile cracked. “When questioned, he admitted to collecting money and said his dad had dropped him off with the sign, making this a family affair,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Police located the father, 40-year-old Gheorghe Romana Gilica, a La Habra resident, and took him into custody, along with the juvenile. Gilica was booked on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was issued a citation and released the same day, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The child’s fate is not immediately known, although the child was likely released to a parent or guardian. Gilica is no stranger to this type of grift, according to arrest records obtained by SGV CityWatch. He was arrested November 18, 2024 in Oak Hills along Highway 395 and Main Street by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office. CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Is that a machete in your pocket, or are you happy to see me? A man was arrested November 19, allegedly caught with a sweet blade tucked into his trousers. Officers responded to a call of a man laying on the ground near 25 N. Stoneman Ave. They discovered the man, 33-year-old Anthony Roderick Bell, is on probation for auto theft with search and seizure terms, according to the Alhambra Police Department. “Officers searched the suspect, they found a large machete concealed inside his front waistband,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Bell claimed the machete is his sports weapon, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Bell was arrested, then issued a citation and released. Two suspects are accused of entering a residential rear yard in the 600 block of North Olive Avenue. They forced entry into a rear window while a third suspect knocked on the front door as a distraction, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Someone notified the Alhambra Police Department and as officers arrived to the house, one of the suspects jumped into a waiting vehicle and drove away, but were stopped. West Covina residents Jessica Vanessa Charris Rojas, 30, and Edson Rubio Diaz, 31 were taken into custody. Also arrested was Los Angeles resident David Murcea, 31. All three suspects have since been charged with first-degree burglary. Rubio and Murcea were released on bond. Charris remains in custody. All are scheduled for an appearance in Alhambra Superior Court May 15, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Lawrence White, a 28-year-old Pasadena resident, was caught in that city March 13 after detectives learned his location and waited for the suspect to reveal himself, according to the Alhambra Police Department. White is accused of evading South Pasadena Police officers who attempted to perform a traffic stop on him March 1, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. During the South Pasadena pursuit, White is accused of striking another vehicle at Huntington Drive in Fremont Avenue. He continued to flee and allegedly ran a red light, according to the Alhambra Police department. Alhambra Police officers located the suspect on three separate occasions and also attempted to stop him, but he continued to flee at high rates of speed, failing to stop at multiple stop signs and deliberately disregarded the safety of others through his reckless driving, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Once White was detained, officers searched his vehicle and found a loaded firearm in the glove compartment, according to the Alhambra Police Department. White was officially charged in court with two counts of felony evading a police officer, one count of misdemeanor hit and run causing property damage and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, according to Superior Court records. White is being held in Lou of $150,000 bail at the twin towers correctional facility in Los Angeles. He made an initial appearance on March 15 and is scheduled to reappear in Alhambra, Superior Court April 2. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A woman was seriously injured January 18 after her ex emerged from her vehicle with a handgun and allegedly kidnapped her, forcing her to drive from Pasadena to Alhambra.
A concerned friend received a call from the woman who was heard arguing with a man. After the call dropped, the friend notified Alhambra Police Dispatch around 6:30 a.m. During a search for the woman’s vehicle near her residence, the woman’s son notified officers about a call he received from her, according to the Alhambra Police Department. The son said his mother was still with the ex, identified as 43-year-old Alhambra resident Clemente Enrique Contreras. Clemente allegedly followed the victim to Pasadena and was waiting in the back seat of her vehicle. He also allegedly forced her to drive to Alhambra, hitting her several times in the head, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Officers located the woman’s vehicle at Almansor Street and Ross Avenue where the suspect exited, allegedly still armed with a handgun. The woman drove away. Contreras allegedly refused to surrender. “Officers secured the scene and attempted to de-escalate the situation. After almost an hour of negotiation, Clemente Contreras of Alhambra, CA, dropped his weapon and was taken into custody,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Contreras was booked on suspicion of domestic violence, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and false imprisonment, according to Lt. Grant Spencer of the Alhambra Police Department. Contreras is being held in lieu $1.25 million at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility ahead of a scheduled appearance in the Alhambra Courthouse January 22. |
