Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Police are investigating a photo circulated through social media recently depicting an Alhambra Police officer’s uniform, sergeant badge and more with a note supporting Hong Kong Police through lengthy civil unrest. The note, written in English, followed by Chinese, stated “Los Angeles County Alhambra Police Dept supports HK Police to restore law & order to Hong Kong.” Alhambra Police were made aware of the photo August 29. “This photograph was not endorsed by the Alhambra Police Department or the City of Alhambra,” the Alhambra Police Department said in a written statement. “Employees of the Alhambra Police Department are prohibited from engaging in any political activity while in uniform or otherwise representing the department. This policy is in place to ensure that the Alhambra Police Department and its officers are able to maintain neutrality in the course of their duly entrusted duties,” the Alhambra Police Department said. It is either still unclear who took the photo, or police have not yet stated if a suspect has been identified.
It is unclear how the photographer gained access to an Alhambra police uniform and equipment. Mass demonstrations have been orchestrated across Hong Kong in opposition to an extradition bill that is believed to undermine the semi-autonomous region. Millions of Hong Kong residents poured into the streets and have clashed with authorities attempting to stop protestors. Arrests of several prominent activists have been made. |
