Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Like a spinning top loosed upon the Earth, a pursuit suspect dangerously and carelessly evaded police around the Los Angeles and Alhambra areas Friday.
25-year-old Raquel Alvarez is accused of grand theft auto, felony evading and hit and run, according to the Alhambra Police Department. An officer attempted to stop Alvarez who ran a red light in a white van at Fremont Avenue and Main Street around 9:11 a.m. February 19. Due to her erratic driving, the pursuit was terminated, Alhambra Police said. From the westbound I-10 freeway, Alvarez fled to the northbound 101 freeway into the Los Angeles area where the California Highway Patrol was asked to take over. The chase entered the south 101 after briefly exiting onto surface streets at Melrose Avenue. Police followed far behind, tracking Alvarez with the aid of a helicopter. After tearing a path in the Downtown Los Angeles area, Alvarez was seen on live television exiting the stolen van near Templeton Street and Sheffield Avenue. She talked to a pedestrian before fleeing in the van again when police approached her. Other drivers paced the stolen van and pedestrians conversed with Alvarez during the remainder of the chase as she blew past red lights in the neighborhoods north of California State University, Los Angeles and north of Downtown LA until an unknown driver in a Mini Cooper took Alvarez. Los Angeles Police officers eventually stopped the Mini Cooper and took Alvarez into custody. The van Alvarez drove was reported stolen in Los Angeles the same day, Alhambra Police said. “On Monday, February 23, 2021, detectives from the Alhambra Police Department will present their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office,” Alhambra Police said in a written statement. The driver, Anwar Josue Ramos, fled Alhambra officers from South 9th Street and Front Street around 4:10 a.m. April 25 after they tried to pull him over after discovering the vehicle he was driving was stolen, according to Lt. Tai Seki of the Alhambra Police Department. The pursuit wound its way through Alhambra surface streets, on the I-10 freeway into the east Los Angeles area where the pursuit continued on surface streets. Ramos drove the stolen vehicle into a Burger King parking lot at 535 S. Atlantic Blvd. where he was taken into custody, Seki told SGV CityWatch. The vehicle was reported stolen to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Pico Rivera Station April 24, Seki told SGV CityWatch, Ramos, a 30-year-old Los Angeles resident, was booked on suspicion of grand theft auto and felony evading police. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - The driver of a stolen vehicle was hospitalized Wednesday after crashing into cement barriers while evading an Alhambra officer. The suspect was being followed by east on the I-10 freeway from Alhambra to as far as Baldwin Avenue where the officer lost sight of the suspect who took to surface streets, Alhambra Police said. The officer originally saw the suspect perform a traffic violation just before 11 p.m. ar Fremont Avenue and Montezuma in Alhambra and soon discovered through a license plate check the vehicle was stolen, Alhambra Police said.
The suspect was followed by police just before 11 p.m. Alhambra officers located the mangled wreck of a that collided into K-rails at El Monte Station, 3501 Santa Anita Ave. Los Angeles County Firefighters had to extricate the driver from the heavily damaged vehicle. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A motorcyclist was jailed Tuesday morning after losing control of his ride and crashing, police said. The unidentified rider accelerated and ran a stop sign in the area of Pine and Maguerita around 4 a.m. May 14 while an officer in the area attempted to keep the rider in his sight. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and crashed, Alhambra Police said.
The rider sustained some injuries, was detained, eventually hospitalized and jailed after officers learned the motorcycle was stolen out of Monterey Park, Alhambra Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - A woman was caught on camera stealing from a home last Friday, police said. The woman was recorded February 8 as she took a large package from a home in the 1200 block of South Chapel Avenue around 11:07 a.m. A vehicle pulled to the residence and stopped in an alley. The suspect walked up to the home and lifted the packages, Alhambra Police said. The woman placed the packages in a bag and left the home.
The suspect may be the passenger of the vehicle, as she was seen exiting a passenger door before stealing the packages. Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call the Alhambra Tip Line at 626-308-4875.

ALHAMBRA - Alhambra Police detectives are asking for public help in identifying package thieves seen stealing from a porch March 19.
The crime occurred in the 600 block of North Curtis Avenue. The suspects reportedly posed as solicitors, knocked on the door and then fled with the FedEx package when no one answered. The suspects posed as employees of a free carpet cleaning business, Alhambra Police said. Anyone with information on the theft is urged to call the Alhambra Police Department at 626-308-4875. Two female suspects were caught on surveillance soon after using the lost card at a Target store, Home Depot and Burlington all in Alhambra. The surveillance footage at Target caught the suspects in the self-checkout, Alhambra Police said.
