Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - An officer received minor injuries after a domestic violence suspect got into two confrontations with police Saturday, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The suspect, 46-year-old Juan Gabriel Miranda, was taken into custody with the use of less than lethal rounds when he briefly barricaded himself in his vehicle after the second police shooting, according to the Alhambra Police Department. No police officers, nor Miranda, were hit by gunfire. Officers were called to the 1900 block of South Primrose Avenue at 8:35 p.m. December 28 for a domestic violence investigation. Miranda drove away from the scene before officers arrived, but returned several minutes later. “Officers gave orders to the suspect to stop and exit his vehicle. A gunshot was heard as the suspect fled in the direction of officers, at which time an officer involved shooting occurred,” Alhambra Police Sergeant Edward Elizalde said in a written statement.
Miranda fled in his vehicle again and returned once more. A second police shooting occurred and Miranda briefly barricaded himself inside his vehicle until bean bag rounds were used to force Miranda to surrender, Elizalde said. Miranda was given a medical examination to clear him for booking in the Alhambra Police jail on suspicion of felony charges related to the domestic violence and assault charges on the officers, Elizalde said. |
