EL MONTE - A man behind the wheel of a flatbed tow truck was arrested Saturday after he destroyed a bus stop and multiple vehicles during an alleged DUI tirade.
The marathon of destruction occurred around 7 p.m. and spanned two blocks on Valley Boulevard between Gibson Road and Baldwin Avenue June 6. The driver stopped after striking a fence in a parking lot in the northeast corner of Valley Boulevard and Baldwin, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. In a cell phone recording shared by Xai Urrutia on Youtube, the tow truck from Angel City Towing entered a parking lot and struck five parked vehicles as frightened onlookers fled mere feet from being hit. The driver stepped on the gas after the tow truck briefly became stuck. The truck became free and hit another parked vehicle as angry onlookers climbed onto the truck to remove the driver.
After the driver side window was shattered, two men entered the cab and apparently beat the driver.
The suspect, Alex Daniel Moreno 39, was medically cleared before being booked on suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended license and felony hit and run, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. It is unclear if Moreno is a driver for Angel City Towing. There was no report of a stolen tow truck made to police, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. No other arrests were made. |
