El Monte Police were called at 9:54 p.m. The vehicle was struck three times by gunfire on the right passenger side. Two rounds hit the rear passenger door, the third struck the pillar between the rear and front passenger doors, according to Lt. Ernie Cramer of the El Monte Police Department. The victim and his driver were found near Baldwin Avenue and Loftus Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. The shooting may have taken place between Baldwin Park Boulevard and the Baldwin Avenue exit, Cramer said. The driver, with the victim in tow, chased a white Ford pickup driven by the suspect who got away after exiting onto Temple City Boulevard in Rosemead, the CHP said. The driver didn’t realize the vehicle, nor her passenger, were hit by gunfire until after they stopped, the CHP said. The man was found on the ground, suffering a gunshot wound to the upper torso in the 4000 block of Peck Road around 1:20 a.m. December 12. He was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. “Detectives are canvassing the area for potential witnesses and video surveillance that could have captured the incident,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The crash occurred near Valley Boulevard and Rumford Avenue around 8:40 p.m. December 8. Three patients critical patients were extricated and taken to an area trauma center, according to Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman. An occupant only described as a male adult was later pronounced deceased, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. Rasic did not know if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. He did not immediately know which of the injured belonged to which vehicle. The California Highway Patrol shut down the southbound off ramp from the 605 freeway to Valley Boulevard during an investigation for at least two hours. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MORENO VALLEY - The California Highway Patrol arrested a stolen vehicle suspect as she fled with a passenger into Riverside County early Monday. El Monte Police began pursuing the driver after she failed to stop for an officer before 1:30 a.m. December 2. The chase took the eastbound I-10 freeway into Claremont where the CHP took over, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. CHP officers from the San Gorgonio Pass Office took over the chase near Cherry Valley Boulevard and the I-10 freeway in the community of Cherry Valley, according to Officer Matt Napier of the CHP San Gorgonio Pass Office.
The driver, 26-year-old Carolina Hernandez, an El Monte resident, was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property, Napier said. Hernandez’s passenger was detained and released. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man reportedly armed with a knife died at the scene after police shot him earlier Monday. The incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. in the 9800 block of Cortada Street December 2. El Monte officers arriving to the scene of a 9-1-1 hang up encountered the suspect, according to Sgt. Benjamin Grubb of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Upon arrival, the officers were encountered by the suspect. He was armed with a bladed weapon at which point an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Grubb said.
The suspect was struck in the upper torso. No officers were injured, Grubb said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is assisting with the investigation. |
