Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A driver and passenger were arrested, one eluded capture Wednesday night after a pursuit ended in Temple City.
After a 45-minute search December 26, a containment was ended near Willmonte Avenue and Lower Azusa Road around 10:30 p.m. December 26.The suspects were wanted in connection with a grand theft, according to Sgt. David Smith of the El Monte Police Department. An officer saw the suspects parked in the north end of El Monte and attempted to contact them. The driver led officers on a slow-speed pursuit into Temple City for several minutes until the driver stopped. One passenger fled on foot while the driver and second passenger were arrested. Smith was not sure if any stolen property was found in the suspect vehicle. Booking information was not yet available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Police are conducting a sweep of the El Monte Community Center after a bomb threat was emailed to them Thursday.
While details of the threat could not be confirmed, the threat may be related to a threat emailed nationwide, according to Lt. Ernie Cramer of the El Monte Police Department. El Monte Police are handling the e-mailed threat inside the community center. If a suspicious item is found, outside assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail will be summoned, Cramer said. Police have traffic being redirected in the area. Drivers should avoid Tyler Avenue between Bodger Street and Garvey Avenue, according to an email sent out by El Monte Police at 11:50 a.m. Locally, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a threat in their jurisdiction, as well as Redondo Beach Police, Chino Police, Palm Springs Police and more. News outlets, government buildings, banks, libraries and more across the country report bomb threats as well. The man was pronounced dead in the 11000 block of Bonwood Road after El Monte officers were dispatched to the scene at 10:25 p.m., according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. No suspect information is available. |
