CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - After nearly 4 hours, an armed suspect was taken into custody after refusing to exit a home Sunday. The suspect allegedly made threats against his father, stating he wanted to kill him, barricaded himself instead of a home and refused to comply with orders to surrender. Officers were sent to a home in the 12400 block of Clinton Street around 11:48 a.m. July 7, according to the El Monte Police Department. El Monte Police dispatchers were notified via 911 text of the unfolding incident. After making verbal contact with the texter, dispatchers were told that the suspect also allegedly pointed a gun at a friend, according to Lt. Knight of the El Monte Police Department. Just after the victims inside the house evacuated, officers heard a single gunshot go off. SWAT officers eventually arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody, night told SGV CityWatch. Officers are investigating two related crime scenes, one at Landsdale Avenue and Cogswell Road, and one at North Durfee Avenue and East Garvey Avenue, according to Lt. Knight of the El Monte Police Department. A suspect in a vehicle reportedly opened fire at the motorcyclist. Police responded to the area around 6:20 p.m., Knight told SGV CityWatch. Descriptions of the suspect and the suspect vehicle were not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing, Knight told SGV CityWatch. El Monte police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 11400 block of Garvey Avenue around 1:07 a.m. August 29 and found the shooting victim. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso. El Monte Police were called at 9:54 p.m. The vehicle was struck three times by gunfire on the right passenger side. Two rounds hit the rear passenger door, the third struck the pillar between the rear and front passenger doors, according to Lt. Ernie Cramer of the El Monte Police Department. The victim and his driver were found near Baldwin Avenue and Loftus Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. The shooting may have taken place between Baldwin Park Boulevard and the Baldwin Avenue exit, Cramer said. The driver, with the victim in tow, chased a white Ford pickup driven by the suspect who got away after exiting onto Temple City Boulevard in Rosemead, the CHP said. The driver didn’t realize the vehicle, nor her passenger, were hit by gunfire until after they stopped, the CHP said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A teen boy was arrested on the campus of El Monte High School Wednesday and found with a gun tucked into his waistband after threatening a classmate the day prior. The teen boy allegedly took the unloaded 9-millimeter handgun to El Monte High School, 3048 Tyler Ave., February 12 and threatened another teen in a locker room. The victim reported the incident later to a family member, according to the ElMonte Police Department.
The family member notified school staff. The unnamed suspect was found in a classroom February 13, detained and the gun was safely removed, El Monte Police said. The teen was booked by the El Monte Police Department and is being held at the Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey as he awaits a scheduled court appearance. |
