Grand Theft Auto Suspect Arrested After Running from El Monte Police

EL MONTE - An El Monte resident was jailed Friday after running from an officer attempting to stop him in a stolen vehicle.

The suspect was driving a vehicle taken three days ago within El Monte. An officer on patrol recognized the vehicle and drove back around to stop the driver near Fineview Street and Maxson Road, but the suspect ran on foot, according to Lt. Chris Cano of the El Monte Police Department.

The officer attempted to stop the driver at 5:33 p.m. April 17. The stolen vehicle was abandoned at Peck Road and Weaver Street, Cano told SGV CityWatch.

The suspect was found hiding in a residential property during a yard to yard search at 6:03 p.m., Cano told SGV CityWatch.

37-year-old Ricardo Lopez was booked on suspicion of grand theft auto.
