CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - No arrests have been made yet after a stolen plane was found parked at the San Gabriel Valley Airport in El Monte Monday. The plane was stolen out of Brackett Field in La Verne late Sunday night or early Monday morning, according to Lt. Aram Choe of the El Monte Police Department. An alert was sent to the surrounding police agencies that cover cities with airports. El Monte Police did a check at the San Gabriel Valley airport, 4233 Santa Anita Ave., and located the plane, Choe told SGV CityWatch. The plane was flown out of Brackett Field and landed in La Verne, Choe told SGV CityWatch. The plane is a Cessna 172 Skyhawk fixed wing aircraft. It is registered to a Yorba Linda man, according to Federal Aviation Administration data. It is not immediately known if airport personnel cleared the Cessna for takeoff, or if it was taken without clearance. ********** Copyright 2025. EL MONTE - The pilot of a small plane landed his aircraft in the Santa Anita Wash October 10 after possibly experiencing engine trouble.
The pilot landed in the Santa Anita Wash area closest to the San Gabriel Valley Airport, 4233 N. Santa Anita Ave. around 5:07 p.m., after experiencing issues roughly five minutes prior. Air traffic control at San Gabriel Valley Airport called Los Angeles County Firefighters to the scene, but the pilot was uninjured. “Operations, just be advised we had an experimental aircraft flew down in the wash. There appears to be no injuries. The pilot had reported he is fine,” according to air traffic control radio transmissions. The plane is an experimental Tucano Replica fixed wing aircraft built and owned by Robin Langhofer. Jan’s Towing arrived to lift the aircraft to the road. A fuel tank on the plane was leaking. Los Angeles County Firefighters are on scene helping to supply foam. Crews from the airport are also working to prevent a fire, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The crash was reported around 11:13 a.m. August 31 close to Lower Azusa Road. Ambulances have been called for both the plane’s occupants. Firefighters plan on transporting them to an area hospital. The plane, a fixed-wing, multi-engine Cessna 510 is registered to Star Jet, LLC with an address in San Marino, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - An small aircraft landed in the Rio Honda Wash, firefighters reported Thursday afternoon. The plane hit the Rio Hondo Wash just north of San Gabriel Valley Airport, 4233 N. Santa Anita Avenue around 5:19 p.m. The plane landed in roughly an inch of water. The pilot was spotted sitting on a wing and was airlifted by a Sheriff’s helicopter, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Air traffic controllers advised LA County Fire of a plane down north of the airport. The plane and pilot were located in the wash near West Hondo Parkway. It is unclear why the pilot landed in the Rio Hondo Wash. |
