CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Street closures remain in effect while authorities investigate a police shooting that led to one suspect receiving injuries considered not life-threatening Monday. Officers were investigating a stolen vehicle report April 14 in the area of Garvey Avenue and New Deal Avenue. At some point, a shooting occurred and one suspect was struck by gunfire, according to Sgt. Burse of the El Monte Police Department. The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. “No officers were injured. We have two suspects in custody. We’re still developing information at this point. LASD Homicide is responding for the investigation,” Burse told SGV CityWatch. The areas of Garvey Avenue and Valley Boulevard remain closed, as well as Garvey Avenue between Peck Road and Tyler Avenue, according to the El Monte Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - El Monte Police officers and K-9 units from two other agencies are attempting to bring a safe end to a barricade Tuesday. Baldwin Avenue between Valley Boulevard and Loftus Street remains blocked, according to the El Monte Police Department. A lieutenant at the El Monte Police Department declined to provide any other details beyond a barricaded suspect operation, an eyewitness said he knows the suspect, who is reportedly a felon armed with a weapon and bulletproof vest. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - One person was declared dead in an El Monte neighborhood Tuesday evening. First responders were sent to the 10500 block of Bisby Street, around 6:30 p.m., June 18. The victim, only described as a male adult, was found at the location, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The apparent cause of death was not immediately shared. Broadcast traffic from the Los Angeles County Fire Department briefly detailed a room by room search at the location by El Monte police officers who discovered one person down. Firefighters stood by until the scene was secured for them to go in and begin treating the patient. It is not immediately clear, if investigators have determined a motive, or have acquired a suspect description. First responders were sent to the location just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday, November 9. The No. 5, 6 and 7 Lanes are shut down until at least 7 a.m. until the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner arrives, according to the California Highway Patrol. Prior to the crash, there were numerous reports of a man with a backpack nearly being struck while walking near the slow lane of the west I-10 freeway. The pedestrian was finally struck and went down in the No. 4 lane, according to CHP traffic logs. Lowry, who began his tenure as El Monte police chief in December of 2021, died from health issues, according to a written statement from the City of El Monte. Lowry died Monday, October 24. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lowry family during this difficult time. We are all at a loss and mourning a great leader, man, husband, son, friend and colleague,” according to Acting Police Chief Jake Fisher. “Chief Lowry’s dedication and commitment to the department and residents of El Monte will never be forgotten.” Lowry served with the El Monte Police Department for 20 years, having transferred from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2002. Lowry was officially sworn in as El Monte Police Chief this June,” according to the City of El Monte. Lowry Led the department through the shocking murders of two of his own police officers. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced in the coming days. “The City of El Monte is saddened and shocked by tonight’s tragic shooting that killed two of our own police officers,” according to city officials. Officers were responding to a reported stabbing at the Siesta Inn, 10237 Garvey Ave., and immediately came under fire upon arrival, according to El Monte officials. “There are no words to describe our grief and devastation by this senseless act as we learned about the passing of two of our police officers. It weighs heavy on our hearts and we are sending our support to their families,” according to a joint statement by the City of El Monte, El Monte Police Department and El Monte Police Officers Association. A large crime scene is being taped off around 10327 Garvey Avenue as El Monte officers and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies work to contain the area. The officer’s condition is not publicly known. The status of the downed suspect is not yet known. A second Officer May have been wounded. El Monte officers are checking for possible wounded people at the Siesta Inn Motel, 10327 Garvey Avenue. The suspect’s family has arrived to the scene. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Temple Station, Norwalk/Pico Rivera Station are assisting. Reports from the scene show the shooting took place on North Allgeyer Avenue south of Valley Boulevard. Firefighters were dispatched at 4:50 a.m. May 5. One unidentified victim was taken to a hospital, according to a public information officer with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The patient later died, according to reports from the scene. The El Monte Police Department is deferring all questions to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Officers were called just before 9 p.m. to a male down and bleeding in the street at El Monte Avenue and Lower Azusa Road. The male was declared dead at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters, according to Lt. Knight of the El Monte Police Department. The suspect driver did not remain at the scene. The description of the driver and vehicle are not available, Knight told SGV CityWatch. All lanes of Lower Azusa Road are closed between Pal Mal Avenue and Persimmon Avenue. All lanes of El Monte Avenue are closed between Lower Azusa and Douglas Street, Knight told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE – A 31-year-old man was arrested, suspected of brutally beating to death an 89-year-old woman later Tuesday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
El Monte Police officers discovered the brutally beaten woman during a “welfare check” in the 11300 block of Cedar Circle around 10:54 p.m. The woman was on the ground and appeared to have significant trauma to her upper body, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The 89-year-old woman was hospitalized and later died. After receiving information on a possible suspect, El Monte officers located the man, believed to be the victim’s grandson, and detained him. He was eventually placed into custody, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. |
