CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A pedestrian was struck and killed on the I-10 freeway early Saturday morning. The pedestrian was struck and killed by a black Hyundai on the Peck Road on ramp to the eastbound I-10 freeway around 4:12 p.m. November 23. Caltrans assisted the California Highway Patrol with lane closures, including closing the Peck Road and Valley Boulevard on ramps until the medical examiner took possession of the body. CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Authorities named the 58-year-old man found dead on or near a bike path November 14. Charles Dewire was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. His cause of death was deferred, pending additional investigation. First responders were sent to the bike path near the southbound 605 freeway and the I-10 freeway around 3:18 p.m., according to Officer Garcia with the California Highway Patrol. A quick Internet search revealed an eye-opening photo essay by Los Angeles Times photographer Francine Orr. The essay captured life in what is referred to as “The Cave,” a series of cement vaults underneath the I-10 at the San Gabriel River. Many transients make their life in The Cave, including a man identified in the photo essay as Charles Dewire. His sister, Jamie Dewire, also lived in The Cave and died May 14, 2009 of heroin and morphine intoxication underneath Ramona Avenue, according to Medical Examiner records. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Authorities are investigating after a dead man was reportedly found on or near the San Gabriel River Bikepath Thursday afternoon. First responders were sent to the bikepath near the southbound 605 freeway and the I-10 freeway around 3:18 p.m. November 14, according to Officer Garcia with the California Highway Patrol. The call from a witness was originally sent to the Baldwin Park Police Department. The call was then transferred to the CHP. Investigators were unable to determine jurisdiction, so the CHP took the investigation as a courtesy, Garcia told SGV CityWatch. The victim was only described as a white man in his 50s. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man was shot dead and two others wounded in an early-morning shooting at a sports bar, investigators said. The victim who was killed died inside of the sports bar. A second victim who fled the scene was located at a hospital. She is in stable condition. Witnesses report another woman was shot, but she fled the location and her whereabouts are not known, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders were sent to a report of gunfire around 12:09 a.m. in the 10700 block of Lower Azusa Road, October 12. As El Monte police officers arrived, bystanders directed officers into the bar to a gunshot victim. While investigators did not name the bar, the general address combined with Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch records indicate the shooting occurred at the Silver Dollar Saloon, 10729 Lower Azusa Rd. It is not publicly clear if investigators have identified a suspect or suspects. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - After nearly 4 hours, an armed suspect was taken into custody after refusing to exit a home Sunday. The suspect allegedly made threats against his father, stating he wanted to kill him, barricaded himself instead of a home and refused to comply with orders to surrender. Officers were sent to a home in the 12400 block of Clinton Street around 11:48 a.m. July 7, according to the El Monte Police Department. El Monte Police dispatchers were notified via 911 text of the unfolding incident. After making verbal contact with the texter, dispatchers were told that the suspect also allegedly pointed a gun at a friend, according to Lt. Knight of the El Monte Police Department. Just after the victims inside the house evacuated, officers heard a single gunshot go off. SWAT officers eventually arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody, night told SGV CityWatch. Officers discovered the body of an Asian man while conducting a welfare check at a home in the 10500 block of Bisby Street around 6:30 p.m. The publicly unidentified victim had visible trauma to the upper torso , according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - One person was declared dead in an El Monte neighborhood Tuesday evening. First responders were sent to the 10500 block of Bisby Street, around 6:30 p.m., June 18. The victim, only described as a male adult, was found at the location, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The apparent cause of death was not immediately shared. Broadcast traffic from the Los Angeles County Fire Department briefly detailed a room by room search at the location by El Monte police officers who discovered one person down. Firefighters stood by until the scene was secured for them to go in and begin treating the patient. It is not immediately clear, if investigators have determined a motive, or have acquired a suspect description. First responders were sent to the location just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday, November 9. The No. 5, 6 and 7 Lanes are shut down until at least 7 a.m. until the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner arrives, according to the California Highway Patrol. Prior to the crash, there were numerous reports of a man with a backpack nearly being struck while walking near the slow lane of the west I-10 freeway. The pedestrian was finally struck and went down in the No. 4 lane, according to CHP traffic logs. El Monte Police officers responding to a assault with a deadly weapon call in the 11000 block of Ranchito Street discovered the body of a 40 to 45-year-old woman. She suffered from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. First responders were sent to the location just before 5 p.m. Sunday, October 22. The suspect, only described as a Latino woman 20 to 25 years old, was detained outside of the residence. She was later taken into custody. A potential murder weapon was found at the scene. It is not publicly clear if investigators have determined a motive. |
