EL MONTE - Officers from multiple agencies are assisting El Monte Police with a search for a man reportedly armed with a knife. The search is in the area of Cogswell Road and Deana Street. The suspect is described as an assault with a deadly weapon suspect, according to responding Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies.
Irwindale Police is also on scene, along with Baldwin Park Police and deputies with the Sheriff’s Temple Station. Deputies were called by El Monte to assist and were initially told that El Monte officers may have fired at the suspect. The railroad ties caught fire near a one-story commercial building at 10673 Valley Blvd. around 2:13 p.m. July 11. Fire hose had to be laid across active railroad tracks, forcing trains to be temporarily halted, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters called the fire knocked down at 2:41 p.m. Metrolink service was disrupted due to the fire, with eastbound train 314 held at Cal State Los Angeles. Line 327 westbound to Los Angeles was held at Baldwin Park, according to Metrolink. No injuries were reported, according to the El Monte Police Department. The crime occurred after the suspect performed a traffic stop on the woman at Durfee Avenue and Magnolia Street around 7 p.m. July 2. The suspect drove a brown or green Ford Crown Victoria car equipped with red and blue dashboard lights and a PA system, according to the El Monte Police Department. The suspect asked for the victim’s driver license and registration. While she was outside the vehicle, the victim was assaulted, El Monte Police said. The suspect drove off in an unknown direction. The suspect sported three teardrop tattoos under his right eye, an 8-ball tattoo on his neck, a Nazi/white power “triskele” tattoo on the back of his right hand and a burn mark extending from his right thumb to his wrist. The suspect is Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old stands 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds, has a muscular build, brown eyes, black hair, is unshaven and possibly sported a goatee, El Monte Police said.
