Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A Sig Alert was issued for the westbound I-10 freeway off ramp at Durfee Avenue after a motorcyclist was shot Saturday. The Sig Alert, issued at 1:46 p.m., is in place for an unknown duration, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the California Highway Patrol. The CHP responded to a reported shooting victim at the Durfee Avenue off ramp at 1:13 p.m., according to CHP traffic logs. It is unclear where the shooting took place. Firefighters were dispatched at 1:13 p.m., arrived five minutes later, treated and transported one patient to County/USC Medical Center, according to Los Angeles County Fire Captain Ron Haralson.
CHP officers initiated a traffic break and searched for evidence of gunfire, but could not locate it. An officer who spoke to the victim confirmed he was shot, according to CHP radio traffic. A friend of the victim initially told a CHP dispatcher that a rival motorcycle gang was behind the shooting, but that claim was unconfirmed. A suspect remains outstanding.

EL MONTE - Investigators continue their search for a man caught on camera as he grabbed, hit and attempted to rape an 18-year-old victim Sunday.
Security camera’s from the nearby residence of Nicole Chang recorded the attack in the 3300 block of Tyler Avenue February 17 around 12:01 a.m. The suspect walked past the victim who was walking in the opposite direction. The suspect turned around and grabbed the victim from behind.

The suspect forced the victim down and tried to sexually assault her, according to the El Monte Police Department.
The victim was dragged down Brockway Street from the corner at Tyler Avenue. The victim fought back and hit the suspect multiple times in the face, El Monte Police said. The suspect is described as a clean-shaven Hispanic man with brown eyes. he is 30 to 40 years old, stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He wore a long-sleeve blue shirt and dark pants. EL MONTE - An assault suspect remains free today as detectives attempt to locate the man caught on camera as he attacked an 18-year-old woman Sunday.

“We heard a girl screaming at approximately 12:01am Sunday morning,” Chang wrote on her Facebook page. Chang’s husband ran out to look for the suspect, but he was already gone. The victim apparently never stopped to ask for help. El Monte Police arrived minutes later, Chang said. “After the police caught up to her, she went with them around town trying to catch the man in blue,” Chang said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A teen boy was arrested on the campus of El Monte High School Wednesday and found with a gun tucked into his waistband after threatening a classmate the day prior. The teen boy allegedly took the unloaded 9-millimeter handgun to El Monte High School, 3048 Tyler Ave., February 12 and threatened another teen in a locker room. The victim reported the incident later to a family member, according to the ElMonte Police Department.
The family member notified school staff. The unnamed suspect was found in a classroom February 13, detained and the gun was safely removed, El Monte Police said. The teen was booked by the El Monte Police Department and is being held at the Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey as he awaits a scheduled court appearance. The fire burned at 12404 Clinton St. The fire, dispatched at 8:20 p.m., was knocked down in 18 minutes, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire’s cause is under investigation. The collision occurred at the crossing in the 3200 block of North Cogswell Road just after 10 a.m. The pedestrian died at the scene, according to Inspector Scott Elliott of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Los Angeles-Bound train 319 collided with the pedestrian. The tracks between Baldwin Park and El Monte are closed, according to a statement issued by Metrolink.
