CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Street closures remain in effect while authorities investigate a police shooting that led to one suspect receiving injuries considered not life-threatening Monday. Officers were investigating a stolen vehicle report April 14 in the area of Garvey Avenue and New Deal Avenue. At some point, a shooting occurred and one suspect was struck by gunfire, according to Sgt. Burse of the El Monte Police Department. The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. “No officers were injured. We have two suspects in custody. We’re still developing information at this point. LASD Homicide is responding for the investigation,” Burse told SGV CityWatch. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man is out of the hospital and in custody Thursday, booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer. Use of force was needed on the suspect who originally used a knife to threaten neighbors in the 10000 block of Bodger Street just before 11 p.m. April 9, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “When [El Monte] officers arrived on scene, they located the suspect armed with a knife and gave him numerous verbal commands to drop the weapon,” to which he allegedly did not comply, according to the Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. Police shot the man as he advanced towards them while armed. He was treated at a hospital and later released to El Monte Police custody. The LA County District Attorney’s Office Justice System Integrity Division responded and will conduct its own independent investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Department. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man described as being in his 50s died on a platform at the El Monte bus terminal Sunday. Few details are known, but the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau will be investigating this death, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. First responders were called to the lower bay of the bus terminal, 3501 Santa Anita Ave., around 10:25 a.m. March 23. “I'm not sure if the patron fell getting off the bus or on the bus. They tried everything to resuscitate him. From what I'm hearing,” according to a source who asked not to be publicly identified. The entire lower bay was closed during the investigation. All buses that serve the lower bay were rerouted to the upper level until investigators cleared the scene and the body was removed. The man appeared to be exiting a bus when he died. Help was summoned immediately and CPR was provided. The body was removed around 2 p.m. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will publicly identify the man and provide a cause of death. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man accused of burglary by store employees allegedly brandished a handgun In retaliation, leading to a deadly police shooting Monday, investigators said. The man was accompanied by a female when they tried to leave Target, 3610 Peck Rd., with merchandise not paid for around 8:45 p.m. December 16. Employees confronted the man and woman who then left empty handed, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The man returned to the Target, weapon in hand, and brandished it, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Both suspects fled in a vehicle before El Monte Police officers arrived, setting off a search. Officers located and tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused. After a brief chase, the man fled the vehicle on foot. Officers followed the man to the 11000 block of Tyler Avenue where he was shot multiple times. He died at the scene. A semiautomatic weapon was found, according to the Sheriff’s Department. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating what led El Monte police to shoot and kill a man who allegedly caused a disturbance at a shopping center Monday night. The suspect, who remains publicly unidentified, was allegedly causing a disturbance and brandishing a weapon at a target store around 8:45 p.m. December 16. El Monte officers called to the disturbance located a dark-colored vehicle the suspect allegedly drove from the scene and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop and lead officers on a brief chase, authorities said. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man was shot dead and two others wounded in an early-morning shooting at a sports bar, investigators said. The victim who was killed died inside of the sports bar. A second victim who fled the scene was located at a hospital. She is in stable condition. Witnesses report another woman was shot, but she fled the location and her whereabouts are not known, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders were sent to a report of gunfire around 12:09 a.m. in the 10700 block of Lower Azusa Road, October 12. As El Monte police officers arrived, bystanders directed officers into the bar to a gunshot victim. While investigators did not name the bar, the general address combined with Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch records indicate the shooting occurred at the Silver Dollar Saloon, 10729 Lower Azusa Rd. It is not publicly clear if investigators have identified a suspect or suspects. Officers discovered the body of an Asian man while conducting a welfare check at a home in the 10500 block of Bisby Street around 6:30 p.m. The publicly unidentified victim had visible trauma to the upper torso , according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - One person was declared dead in an El Monte neighborhood Tuesday evening. First responders were sent to the 10500 block of Bisby Street, around 6:30 p.m., June 18. The victim, only described as a male adult, was found at the location, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The apparent cause of death was not immediately shared. Broadcast traffic from the Los Angeles County Fire Department briefly detailed a room by room search at the location by El Monte police officers who discovered one person down. Firefighters stood by until the scene was secured for them to go in and begin treating the patient. It is not immediately clear, if investigators have determined a motive, or have acquired a suspect description. El Monte Police officers responding to a assault with a deadly weapon call in the 11000 block of Ranchito Street discovered the body of a 40 to 45-year-old woman. She suffered from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. First responders were sent to the location just before 5 p.m. Sunday, October 22. The suspect, only described as a Latino woman 20 to 25 years old, was detained outside of the residence.
