The incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. in the 9800 block of Cortada Street December 2. El Monte officers arriving to the scene of a 9-1-1 hang up encountered the suspect, according to Sgt. Benjamin Grubb of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Upon arrival, the officers were encountered by the suspect. He was armed with a bladed weapon at which point an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Grubb said.
The suspect was struck in the upper torso. No officers were injured, Grubb said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is assisting with the investigation. Officers responded to the 3600 block of Maxson Road around 10:50 p.m. November 24 to a shooting. A man standing on the sidewalk was struck by gunfire. He was later taken to county USC Medical Center, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. The lieutenant did not have a motive, nor a suspect or vehicle description available. The shooting took place around 2:45 p.m. at 3501 Santa Anita Ave. El Monte officers responding to a call of a man shooting a gun encountered a suspect. During a foot pursuit, the suspect withdrew a weapon and officers opened fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Officers responded to 7-Eleven, 10008 Valley Blvd., at 10:17 p.m. April 26 and found Rosas dead of multiple gunshot wounds. He died in the parking lot, according to Lt. Chris Cano of the El Monte Police Department. Rosas reportedly was trying to break up a fight when he was shot twice. Angel Rosas was identified by Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Police responded to 7-Eleven, 10008 Valley Blvd., at 10:17 p.m. April 26 and found the victim dead of at least two gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Rosas died in the parking lot.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the shooting. There are two suspects, homicide detectives said. They are only described as Hispanic men. Police responded to 7-Eleven, 10008 Valley Blvd., at 10:17 p.m. and found one male victim dead of multiple gunshot wounds. The victim died in the parking lot, according to Lt. Chris Cano of the El Monte Police Department. A suspect description was unavailable. The investigation was transferred to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, Cano said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A Sig Alert was issued for the westbound I-10 freeway off ramp at Durfee Avenue after a motorcyclist was shot Saturday. The Sig Alert, issued at 1:46 p.m., is in place for an unknown duration, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the California Highway Patrol. The CHP responded to a reported shooting victim at the Durfee Avenue off ramp at 1:13 p.m., according to CHP traffic logs. It is unclear where the shooting took place. Firefighters were dispatched at 1:13 p.m., arrived five minutes later, treated and transported one patient to County/USC Medical Center, according to Los Angeles County Fire Captain Ron Haralson.
CHP officers initiated a traffic break and searched for evidence of gunfire, but could not locate it. An officer who spoke to the victim confirmed he was shot, according to CHP radio traffic. A friend of the victim initially told a CHP dispatcher that a rival motorcycle gang was behind the shooting, but that claim was unconfirmed. A suspect remains outstanding. Ana Maria was found shot inside the home she and the suspect shared together. She was taken to an area hospital where Ana Maria and the unborn baby were pronounced dead.
The estranged couple have addition children, who were not home at the time of the shooting, investigators said. A California Highway Patrol officer safety broadcast noted Curiel-Martinez may be headed to Mexico. Curiel-Martinez should be considered armed and dangerous. The victim was found in the middle of Maxson Road and Deana Street around 10:46 a.m. Officers found the victim while responding to two calls of gunfire in the area, according to Lt. Ernie Cramer of the El Monte Police Department. The victim was conscious and talking with officers and medics. He is expected to survive his wounds, Cramer said. Medics from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau treated and transported the victim. A Sheriff’s deputy on patrol tried to contact the suspect after seeing him carry packages near Seaman Avenue and Giovane Street around 11:30 p.m. The deputy saw the gun tucked into the suspect’s waistband and ordered him to put his hands up, said Lt. Derrick Alfred of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect reportedly grabbed for the gun and the deputy opened fire, striking him. The suspect’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. |
