CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A woman was found deceased behind a Walmart Supercenter Thursday. First responders were called to the area behind Walmart, 1950 Auto Centre Dr. around 10:07 a.m. January 2 on a reported Emergency Medical Response, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The woman, found near the 57 freeway on ramp in a tent, was declared dead at the scene. She was found inside a tent in a homeless encampment, according to the California Highway Patrol. Foul play is not suspected, the California Highway Patrol said in a written statement. Homeless encampments have long occupied the embankment behind the Walmart. CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A motorcyclist was taken to a trauma center after being struck and possibly run over in a crash Friday. The crash occurred on the westbound 210 freeway just east of Grand Avenue around 6 p.m. December 20. Early reports stated the motorcyclist was run over and then trapped under a vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol traffic reports. The HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes were blocked temporarily. The motorcyclist was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. It is unclear if anyone else was injured. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor UPDATE, 12:26 p.m.: At 7:55 a.m., officers arrested a suspect. Andrew Scott Garcia was booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm on a person and exhibiting a concealed firearm in public, according to Glendora Police arrest records. GLENDORA - The Foothills Special Enforcement Team remains on scene in a neighborhood Wednesday morning and are attempting to get a reported armed and dangerous man to surrender from a home they believe he is hunkered down in. Multiple homes in the 1400 block of Dalton Avenue east of Underhill Drive remain evacuated during the standoff. Officers originally responded to the neighborhood on a report of a man with a gun Tuesday night, according to Lieutenant Matt Fenner of the Glendora Police Department. The incident began sometime before 10 p.m., November 19. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team is being assisted with crisis negotiators to bring the situation to a peaceful end, Fenner told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner revealed what killed an estranged husband and wife found in a burning Glendora home. Giselle Moody, 68, died from homicidal violence. The medical examiner neglected to detail exactly the types of injuries she sustained. Duane Moody, 71, died from suicide. The causes included inhalation of products of combustion and multiple sharp force injuries. The house fire occurred September 16 at a residence in the 700 block of Danecroft Avenue. First responders responded just before 2:30 a.m. and soon located Duane Moody in a bedroom. He was pulled outside the home and later declared dead. Later in the day, well after flames were extinguished, Giselle Moody was found in a bedroom during an extensive search. A dog also died, found in the rear of the home. Public records show Giselle Moody filed for divorce September 3. CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - An unknown number of suspects took off with merchandise after smashing through the front window of an Ulta Sunday morning. Officers responded to a burglary alarm call at Ulta, 1229 S. Lone Hill Ave., around 4:22 a.m. September 22. When officers arrived, the suspects and the getaway vehicle were gone. Much damage was done to the window front, according to the Glendora Police Department. CityWatch Editor UPDATE, 4:31 p.m.: Investigators discovered a second body in the burned down home Monday. The body was discovered in a bedroom during a methodical search of the home. It is unclear if the bedroom where the second body was found is the same location where the man was found unresponsive. GLENDORA - Homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious house fire Monday. The man was found dead inside along with a dog — the wife apparently has not been found. “We’re concerned about her welfare. We were told by the Glendora Police Department that they were here about a month earlier in regards to a domestic violence incident. Nobody was arrested in that incident. Family told us they were in the process of a divorce,” according to Lt. Steve De Jong of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Investigators apparently found blood inside the home in the aftermath of the fire. First responders were sent to a single-story, single-family home in the 700 block of South Danecroft Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. September 16. Firefighters took about one hour to knock down the flames. The woman was last seen Sunday night with other members of her family. They attended a high school football game. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A Chilean national is facing multiple charges, accused of child exploitation and producing child porn. Daniel Andres Aravena, 21, was taken into custody at LAX Tuesday morning. He was met at the airport by US Customs and Border Protection officers who detained him until he was taken into custody by Glendora Police detectives and agents with Homeland Security Investigations, according to the Glendora Police Department. Aravena allegedly met the 14-year-old girl through an online game. He allegedly manipulated and groomed the girl over several months through other online platforms. Detectives traced the suspect’s Internet provider address back to Chile. Homeland Security Investigations agents helped Glendora police determine not only that Aravena allegedly arranged to meet the victim in person, but also allegedly booked accommodations near her Glendora home, according to the Glendora Police Department. Aravena was booked on suspicion of contacting a minor with intent for sex, sending harmful matter with intent to seduce a minor, arranging a meeting with a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, possessing obscene matter of a minor in a sexual act, using a minor for obscene matter, and making annoying phone calls. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A short-lived pursuit ended with a crash Thursday afternoon and the suspects were taken into custody after trying to blend in with shoppers at a San Dimas Costco. The vehicle officers pursued was linked to a robbery in the City of Los Angeles. Glendora officers located the vehicle in the area of Sunflower Avenue and Gladstone Street around 11:26 a.m. and learned of the crime through a license plate search. Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver refused and attempted to evade them, according to Lt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police department. The vehicle crashed on Lone Hill Avenue at Gladstone Street outside a Costco shopping center in San Dimas. The suspects fled into the Costco where a search was conducted. Shoppers were evacuated while officers surrounded the store for a search, according to a bystander at Costco. “I was just at Costco getting the tires on my car rotated and all hell broke loose, two guys, one for sure with a gun in store, one has been cought the other one is still on the loose. Costco is in lockdown,” said another Costco shopper. With the help of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies from the San Dimas Station, the suspects were found and detained. The suspects were held for Los Angeles Police Department officers to take into custody, Celello told SGV CityWatch. Apparently, no one was injured. The burglary occurred in the 100 block of South Gordon Avenue around 1:59p.m. April 4. Officers watched the home and observed two suspects flee into a waiting vehicle with pillowcases full of alleged stolen property, according to Lt. Matt Fenner of the Glendora Police Department. Officers used their patrol vehicles to box in the suspect vehicle. Recovered were two handguns and jewelry. In all, $5,000 in property was taken. Arrested were Camilo Andres Lancheros Garcia, 22, and Daivyd Jair Buitrago Calderon. Both men were charged with first-degree burglary. The driver died at the scene of the crash on eastbound Foothill Boulevard west of Pennsylvania Avenue. The crash occurred around 3:08 p.m. March 31. The driver is Cynthia Louise Dudley, a 66-year-old Azusa resident. Other than blunt trauma, no other cause or other significant conditions were listed. The crash was deemed an accident, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The Glendora Police Major Accident Investigation Team preliminarily believes impairment was not a factor and Dudley was possibly traveling at the posted 40-mile-per-hour speed limit, according to Lt. Mike Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. Dudley was the only occupant in the crashed vehicle. A second vehicle was involved in the crash, but no one else suffered injuries, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. |
