Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A 35-foot-long box truck caught fire and became fully-engulfed Saturday morning. The fire was reported around 8:47 a.m. on the eastbound 210 freeway east of Grand Avenue March 14 on the right shoulder. The original report stated flames were seen coming from the engine, according to the California Highway Patrol. Either residents or passersby reported the sound of explosions, but it is unclear if the box truck’s tires or its contents were exploding. There was no information on injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Four people accused of being part of a retail crime ring were taken into custody Tuesday after fleeing police after burglarizing a Kohl’s store of more than $1,500 in merchandise. Officers were called to Kohl’s, 1225 S. Lone Hill Ave., just before 6:30 p.m. on a reported theft in progress. Two suspects carrying a large quantity of merchandise fled into a waiting vehicle, which fled after officers attempted a traffic stop, according to the Glendora Police Department. The suspects fled on surface streets, speeding south on Lone Hill Avenue and east on Arrow Highway with Glendora officers following behind, helicopters from the Pasadena and Pomona Police departments joined the chase.
The pursuit ended in Ontario at a gas station. The driver and passenger were taken into custody, while two other passengers escaped on foot. A search with assistance of Ontario Police helped find the escaping suspects, Glendora Police said. Arrested were: 22-year-old Della Joyner from Colton 18-year-old Chyna Harris from Las Vegas 21-year-old Barnard Saddler from San Bernardino 24-year-old Melvin Odom from Las Vegas All four suspects were booked on suspicion of grand theft, organized retail theft, and conspiracy. Joyner was additionally charged with felony reckless evading and hit-and-run, Glendora Police said. |
