Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A suspected DUI driver is accused of fleeing police on surface streets and freeways as far as Burbank and back east through Pasadena where the suspect crashed Saturday.
The suspect fled, with a passenger, when officers attempted a traffic stop on a speeding driver in the 1000 block of West Arrow Highway around 2:42 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The pursuit entered the west 210 freeway, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. The driver exited the west 134 freeway onto South Buena Vista Street in Burbank and headed back east on the freeways. A set of spike strips deployed by the California Highway Patrol disabled the vehicle, which hit the center divider and stopped on the east 210 freeway west of Sierra Madre in Pasadena, Celello told SGV CityWatch. A female passenger exited and was detained. She was hospitalized and will not face charges, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male driver initially refused to exit the vehicle, so a Monrovia Police Department SWAT vehicle was called to help in detaining the male who eventually surrendered, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male was cited, released in the field and was hospitalized. He is facing charges including evading officers and driving under the influence, Celello told SGV CityWatch. Baldemar Sandoval was an LAPD officer with the agency’s Central Division, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. “With great sadness I share that earlier this morning a police officer on his way home from work was involved in a traffic collision on the 210 freeway,” according to LAPD Chief Michel Moore. “I send my deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and friends as we mourn this tragedy.” First responders were sent to the crash just after 2:30 a.m. on the east 210 freeway west of Grand Avenue. The big rig was stopped in the middle lanes of traffic. A black sedan was seen twisted around the tractor trailer. Why the crash happened is under investigation. The No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes remain blocked during the investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. First responders were sent to the crash just after 2:30 a.m. April 15. ABC7 News reports the Los Angeles Police Department is also at the crash scene, but the California Highway Patrol cannot confirm LAPD’s involvement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A man and woman made a paltry attempt at evading police, but were ultimately taken into custody after a pursuit from Glendora to Irwindale February 17.
During the pursuit, a passenger tossed a handgun from the vehicle on the westbound 210 freeway just before the 605 freeway interchange. Officers ultimately recovered the gun, as well as narcotics and instruments described as burglary tools, according to the Glendora Police Department. The department’s Community Impact Team and detectives were conducting enforcement patrols in areas saturated by community complaints of drug sales occurring. A traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle whose driver reportedly committed several vehicle code violations, but the driver refused to stop, according to the Glendora Police Department. The driver and passenger were taken into custody. Arrested were Julia Victoria Barbosa, 24, and Joseph Jesse Marquez, 21. Barbosa was booked on suspicion of evading an officer with wonton disregard for public safety, identity theft, possessing a controlled substance, possessing burglary tools and a probation violation, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez was booked on suspicion of possessing counterfeit items, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez posted $50,000 bail and was released February 19. Barbosa is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. She has pending future court date from a previous crime. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Two people were killed in a reported multi-vehicle crash near the center divider on the eastbound 210 freeway just west of the 57 freeway Thursday morning.
One person was found unresponsive and down in traffic lanes on the westbound side of the freeway. It is unclear if this victim was struck in eastbound lanes and landed on the westbound side. One other victim died inside of a crash vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. Possibly as many as six vehicles ended up being involved in a collision on the eastbound side of the 210 freeway. The crash was reported around 12:13 a.m. December 17. Authorities issued a Sig Alert at 12:46 a.m. for the HOV, No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes on the westbound side. The Sig Alert eventually encompassed all lanes on both east and westbound sides of the freeway except for slow lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. One vehicle possibly landing on its roof after the crash. Northbound traffic on the 57 freeway near Auto Center Drive was temporarily blocked by Glendora Police for at least 30 minutes after the original crash before northbound traffic was allowed to proceed, according to the California Highway Patrol. The sedan collided with the big rig hauling 25,000 pounds of boxes on the eastbound 210 freeway at Sunflower Avenue around 11:34 p.m. November 2. The sedan struck the semi on the curve of the freeway, spun out and came to stop on the right shoulder, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. A Sig Alert was issued at 12:14 a.m. for the No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes. By 3:07 a.m., all traffic lanes were open, the CHP said. |
