One other suspect remains outstanding, with a containment and search focusing on the neighborhood south of the scene of the crime — Lamas Jewelry, 750 Route 66. The outstanding suspect is a black man with a thin build. He has short dreadlocks with hair shaved on the sides of his head and wore a black jacket or white shirt and blue jean pants, Glendora Police said. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team is working to locate a suspect. As of 5:15 p.m. a contingent of SWAT team members followed by a Glendora Police cruiser down Vecino Drive south of Route 66 where a search continues. A jewelry heist occurred around 12:15 p.m. September 6. As Glendora Police arrived, a woman was detained in a nearby vehicle. She was eventually arrested. The two fleeing suspects ran through the rear exit of the jewelry store. Police encountered an armed man in a parking lot in the 600 block of Route 66 where the shooting occurred after the suspect reportedly refused to comply with the officer’s commands, according to Lt. Robert Westphalia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Firefighters arrived at 12:34 p.m. and transported the injured suspect to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect still outstanding is a black man with a thin build, has short dreadlocks and the sides of his head are shaved. Details are few regarding the circumstances of the shooting that took place near the 600 block of West Route 66 September 6. Firefighters were summoned to the scene at 12:30 p.m., arrived at 12:34 p.m. and transported one gunshot victim to the hospital in unknown condition, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Nearby Stanton Elementary School is on lockdown. Students will be taken by bus to Citrus College Stadium Lot on the south side. Parents are encouraged to enter off of Citrus and then walk to the parking lot to be reunited with their children, according to the Glendora Police Department. The shooting reportedly occurred during a jewelry store robbery near Route 66 and Vecino Drive. It is unclear if a suspect was hit by gunfire or if any suspects remain at-large. The fire was reported at a home in the 700 block of West Heber Street. Firefighters were dispatched at 9:08 p.m. and flames were knocked down around 9:40 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Health hazmat units from the Los Angeles County Fire Department are being called to the scene after marijuana was discovered at the home, according to firefighters. It is unclear if the marijuana is part of a grow operation. Details are very few at this time, but technicians with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson Explosives Detail arrived to campus about 25 minutes ago. A detective at the Arson/Explosives detail refused to divulge the circumstances of the response to protect the safety of his explosives technicians. The specific threat to the campus has not been publicized. Earlier reports by KCBS2 news stated it was a phoned-in bomb threat.

Citrus College authorities issued a lockdown alert around 11:30 a.m. Amidst confusion and lack of information, the campus confirmed the lockdown alert was not a drill at 11:54 a.m.
Workers and students reported to SGV CityWatch of police searching the campus, with activity also taking place near the football stadium, which is near the intersection of Barranca Avenue and Route 66. “Citrus Alert: on 1/15/18 an order has been issued to lock down Citrus College. If you are not on campus, stay away. Go to the nearest room, turn off lights, lock door, and remain quiet. Remain locked down until an All Clear has been issued.” No other information is available. Citrus College officials notified students via Twitter at 12:45 p.m. that both day and evening classes were cancelled Monday. A nearby outage near Barranca Avenue and Milton Drive left 1,646 customers without power. Most customers will have power restored by 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to Southern California Edison. Elsewhere in town, an outage pinpointed at East Myrtle Avenue near Glenwood Street has left 1,404 customers without power. An outage at North Treanor Avenue and East Northridge Avenue has left 22 customers without power, while 849 customers near Church of the Open Door, 701 Sierra Madre Ave., are without power. Darkened signals have caused traffic issues in Glendora, hampering Foothill Transit routes on lines 188, 281, 284 and 488 near Citrus College, according to Foothill Transit officials. The fire burned one-acre of vegetation near the 1600 block of East Foothill Boulevard around 1:39 p.m. Open flames have been extinguished, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters were called for an outside investigation and upon arriving on scene, upgraded the call to a brush fire. The cause is under investigation. Glendora officers have just taken the final outstanding suspect in custody near Dodsworth Avenue and Meacham Avenue where the pursuit ended. Glendora Police arrived and almost immediately took the first suspect in custody, according to the California Highway Patrol. The second suspect eluded capture briefly after having shed a red hooded sweatshirt. Colton Police chased two men connected with multiple burglaries in their city, initially on the Interstate 10 freeway into the Pomona area just before 6 a.m. The pursuit wound its way back east into the Ontario area. The pursuit came back west on the 210 freeway into the Pomona area where the CHP Baldwin Park office joined in chasing the suspects, according to CHP radio traffic. The suspects, who were evading officers at more than 100 miles per hour at times, exited onto surface streets at Citrus Avenue and fled their vehicle on foot once they entered a cul-de-sac. The fire, reported at 11:40 a.m., was burning on the right shoulder of the interchange. The Lone Hill Avenue on ramp to the eastbound 210 freeway is partially blocked by Los Angeles County Firefighters, according to the California Highway Patrol. The suspect crashed in the area of Grand Avenue and Cortez Street. West Covina Police have a containment search set up to find the suspect. Glendora officers attempted to pull over the pursuit driver around 10:13 p.m. at Glendora Avenue and Baseline Road. The pursuit was terminated at Glendora Avenue and Juanita due to the suspect’s reckless driving, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. |
