No injuries were reported after the unidentified Long Beach man in a Honda Accord struck the other motorist, a 49-year-old Glendora man in a Toyota Corolla, on northbound Bonnie Cove Avenue at Arrow Highway at 6 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Rodrigo Jimenez. Officer Thomas saw signs of intoxication in the driver and after a thorough DUI investigation, the Long Beach man was arrested.
Two half-empty vodka bottles were found in the DUI driver’s vehicle. The CHP will have extra officers on patrol during the Maximum Enforcement Period this Labor Day Weekend, Jimenez said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A 27-year-old Los Angeles man died at the scene of a crash after his SUV rolled several times on the 210 freeway Friday. The crash occurred on the westbound 210 freeway west of Grand Avenue around 3:50 p.m. April 12. The driver of a 1999 silver Isuzu SUV was driving at high speed in and out of multiple lanes. The driver was in the HOV lane when he steered across the No. 1 lane, into the No. 2 lane and went partially into the No. 3 lane, the California Highway Patrol said. The driver steered to the left to avoid crashing into a vehicle in the No. 3 lane. The driver rolled the SUV several times. He suffered major trauma and died at the scene, the CHP said.
The CHP blocked the HOV & No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes during an investigation around 4:15 p.m., eventually opening the No. 2 and 3 lanes. The fire was reported around 8:47 a.m. on the eastbound 210 freeway east of Grand Avenue March 14 on the right shoulder. The original report stated flames were seen coming from the engine, according to the California Highway Patrol. Either residents or passersby reported the sound of explosions, but it is unclear if the box truck’s tires or its contents were exploding. There was no information on injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Traffic is still impacted by a crash on the westbound 210 freeway at Grand Avenue after a van spun out, crashed and began leaking fuel. The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. The white van spun out and crashed into the center divider. The driver apparently abandoned the van, according tot he California Highway Patrol. Approximately 50 gallons of fuel leaked onto the freeway. A Sig Alert was issued at 3:14 a.m. for all lanes initially, but the No. 3 and 4 lanes were opened by 6:12 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Coroner investigators will determine cause of death after a man was found dead inside a car on the side of the 210 freeway January 24. James Hershey, 67, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
Hershey was found in a parked, black Mercedes-Benz sedan on the right shoulder of the east 210 freeway west of Citrus Avenue around 1:30 p.m. The California Highway Patrol was called to a passerby report of a unresponsive person, according to a CHP press release. Hershey, a Glendora resident, was declared dead at 1:39 p.m. by firefighters, the CHP said. No one else was inside the vehicle, the CHP said. The fire, reported at 11:40 a.m., was burning on the right shoulder of the interchange. The crash between a red sedan and black SUV occurred in eastbound lanes around 7:55 p.m. the CHP and Glendora Police arrived to tend to the crash. A Glendora officer reportedly told CHP officers a victim was trapped inside the engulfed vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol Traffic logs. Arriving Los Angeles County Firefighters declared the woman dead at the scene. It was not immediately clear if the vehicle fire started before the collision. A Sig Alert closed the No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 lanes for nearly two and a half hours during an investigation. The collision, which occurred around 7:41 p.m., occurred between a red sedan and black truck. The CHP and Glendora Police are holding all traffic lanes in an attempt to possibly clear all debris, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. One of the vehicles was fully engulfed by fire, eyewitnesses told the CHP. Glendora Police initially reported that one person is possibly trapped in the fully-engulfed vehicle. A pickup truck involved in the crash reportedly flipped several times before landing back on its wheels. A big rig, blue Hyundai and silver Toyota Corolla were also involved in the crash, which blocked multiple lanes across the westbound side, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The Sig Alert, issued at 1 p.m. is scheduled to last one hour. The 57 freeway northbound is also experiencing heavy traffic at the San Dimas curve. The rider was detained and arrested about 10:52 p.m. on southbound Lope Lane, which is south of Route 66. The pursuit began on the eastbound 210 freeway near Grand Avenue. The rider refused to stop and led the CHP east into Claremont and Pomona at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. The pursuit wound its way along Garey Avenue north and south in the Pomona area and west along Foothill Boulevard in La Verne before reentering the 210 freeway westbound. The rider exited north on Lone Hill Avenue in Glendora and found his way south into the neighborhoods on Lope Lane before fleeing on foot. The rider was almost immediately detained and arrested. |
