The pedestrian, described as a transient man, may have stepped into the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk on Azusa Avenue south of Amar Road around 7:30 p.m. October 25, according to Lt. Jeff Munn of the West Covina Police Department. The vehicle was possibly southbound on Azusa Avenue when the collision occurred. The driver remained at the scene in his cooperating with investigators, Munn told SGV CityWatch. There is a social media report being shared that described the pedestrian as dying at the scene, but Munn denies any fatality resulting from the crash. The No. 1 lane of the eastbound off ramp remains closed. WEST COVINA – One freeway lane has opened after a crash took a life early Thursday morning. All other lanes remain closed. A body was reported in the No. 1 lane of the eastbound I-10 freeway just west of Azusa Avenue around 4:33 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. All other lanes remain closed for an unknown duration. It is unclear which vehicle struck and killed the pedestrian. A blue sedan was observed stopped on the right shoulder of the eastbound I-10 near where the pedestrian was discovered. An additional two to three vehicles were stopped in traffic lanes and pedestrians were seen running to the body, the CHP reported. A man was found dead from apparent stab wounds in the 2100 block of West Garvey Avenue North before 7 a.m. May 17. There was no description given for the victim or a possible suspect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. In the message dated March 15, the unidentified person is said to be resting comfortably at home. The person is under quarantine and is awaiting further instruction from public health officials. “Effective immediately, we have moved from dismissal to closure status at all sites until further notice due to an individual at West Covina High School testing positive for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19),” according to the written statement. “Per the advisement of the California Department of Public Health and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Students should stay home and minimize social contact as much as possible to keep family members safe. “In particular, we ask students to avoid activities involving large gatherings. Students may not be on campus at anytime for any reason. The crash occurred on the eastbound I-10 freeway just west of Citrus Street just before 3 a.m. A big rig reportedly struck as many as three vehicles in the No. 3 lane, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The victim is only described as a Hispanic man in his 40s. He was pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m., the CHP said. All eastbound lanes of the I-10 just west of Citrus will be closed for an unknown duration, the CHP said. Firefighters were called to treat an injured person possibly suffering a head injury. A 12-year-old boy at Traweek Middle School, 1941 E. Rowland Ave., reported the attempted kidnapping at 7:20 a.m. A man in a newer four-door black Mercedes approached the boy while he walked to school. Another man on a bicycle attempted to force the boy in the car, according to the West Covina Police Department. The two suspects fled in unknown directions. The student was uninjured. Detectives are attempting to link two possibly-related incidents from September 4. At 1:18 p.m. Wednesday, a man tried to lure a 10-year-old girl into his vehicle at Workman Avenue and Lark Ellen Avenue. At 3:06 p.m., a man in a black sedan was witnessed following a girl also near Lark Ellen and Workman, West Covina Police said. The driver in the September 5 incident is described as a white man, 20 to 30 years old. He wore sun glasses and a dark shirt. The suspect on the bicycle is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s. He wore a ski mask and a black hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with suspect information is urged to call the West Covina Police Department at 626-939-8688. John Brian Mananghaya Aguila, 28, has not been seen or heard from since August 22 at 4:30 p.m. He failed to show up to work and his being gone is out of character, West Covina Police said in a written statement. Aguila’s 2017 Honda Civic was found abandoned in San Dimas Friday, August 23. It was searched after being impounded and bloody gloves and clothing were found within, West Covina Police said. Surveillance footage showed the Civic was parked in San Dimas by a male determined to not be Aguila. The driver walked away from the car. Fingerprints collected from the Civic helped identify a person of interest. The West Covina Police SWAT team served a search warrant at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Third Street in San Dimas August 27 around 8:30 a.m. Aguila was not inside the apartment unit, West Covina Police said. It is unclear if any of the three detainees are under arrest. The driver evaded Industry deputies into West Covina just after 10 p.m. The pursuit continued slowly onto Lakes Drive from Vincent Avenue. The driver stopped briefly and appeared to be giving up, but continued to drive until he finally surrendered near Regal Edwards Theater. The suspect finally surrendered without further incident. |
