CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner revealed the manner of death for a 38-year-old man found in a home July 14. Felipe de Jesus Rodriguez died from multiple sharp force injuries. The death was deemed a homicide. An early-morning call of a man down led first responders to a dead body July 14 in a house in the 2300 block of West Havenbrook Street around 5:49 a.m. Firefighters declared the victim dead at the scene. CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - One week after a brutal homicide was reported at a bus stop, detectives arrested a suspect. Kevin Davis, 64, a North Hollywood resident, was found with a stab wound to the chest at a bus stop at California Avenue and West Covina Parkway around 3:47 a.m. Sunday, July 7. Despite efforts to save Davis, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Detectives somehow identified Rodney Chapman Jr., 34, as a suspect. He was located in the city of Pomona where he was arrested. Chapman was charged with first-degree murder along with enhancements for using a weapon during the murder and for having been convicted of five previous felonies dating back to 2010, according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. Chapman is being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. He is next scheduled for an appearance in West Covina Superior Court, July 29. Few details are available on the stabbing. Officers responded to the 600 block of North Azusa Avenue Saturday to a reported stabbing around 7 a.m. A victim was located and transported, according to Lt. Brian Daniels of the West Covina Police Department. Investigators later identified a suspect who was taken into custody, Daniels told SGV CityWatch. A CityWatch reader passed by the scene around 8 a.m. Saturday and saw that the parking lot at the now shuttered Big Lots store was taped off by police for an investigation. It is not publicly clear if investigators have determined a motive for the stabbing. The severity of injuries is also not publicly known. The suspect’s name was not readily available. The incident occurred outside of El Pescador, 1125 West Covina Parkway, around 8:23 p.m., according to Lt. Tim Rodgers of the West Covina Police Department in a Sunday-morning interview. As of Monday, the suspect remains at-large. Injuries are considered not life-threatening after the victim was cut on one of his wrists, Rodgers told SGV CityWatch. Valinda man Peter Jacobo, 43, was arrested after a suspect search. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail and was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the West Covina Police Department. The stabbing occurred in the the 100 block of South Glendora Avenue December 31. Officers were called to the scene at 2:07 a.m. Officers arrived alongside paramedics and tended to the victim, according to the West Covina Police Department. Officers responded to Yogurtland, 1000 West Covina Pkwy., around 7:35 p.m. December 2. The man’s injuries are possibly considered not life-threatening, according to Lt. Keith Freeman of the West Covina Police Department. Details are few at the time this post was published, but the stabbing reportedly occurred at or near a bus stop near the intersection of South California Avenue and West Covina Parkway, Freeman told SGV CityWatch. The motive for the attack and a suspect description are either unknown or have yet to be publicly shared. The stabbing was reported just before 9 a.m. at Gold’s Gym, 502 Plaza Dr., March 30. Witnesses said the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, according to the West Covina Police Department. Both victims wound up at a local hospital. One was released and the other was last listed in stable condition, West Covina Police said. “Officers patrolling the area were able to locate the suspect in the vehicle in the area of West Covina Parkway and West Garvey Avenue,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. “The suspect was arrested.” Suspect Paul Quintero, 32, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is being held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse April 2. Police responded to the scene around 10:30 a.m. August 28. There is no known motive, according to Lt. Jeff Munn of the West Covina Police Department. The stabbing occurred at the Sunset Square Apartments, 745 N. Sunset Ave. The parking lot had been taped off by police, according to an eyewitness. There is no suspect in custody, Munn told SGV CityWatch, adding that the suspect is known to the victims. Munn said not everyone stabbed received hospitalization, but wasn’t certain who was transported. No other information is available. A man was found dead from apparent stab wounds in the 2100 block of West Garvey Avenue North before 7 a.m. May 17. There was no description given for the victim or a possible suspect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Police learned of the stabbing after responding to a local hospital to investigate two stabbing victims. There was apparently a struggle between the men and the suspect who stabbed both of them, West Covina Police said. The extent of injuries was not immediately known.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. in the 700 block of North Azusa Avenue. An SGV CityWatch reader observed much police activity at the Azusa Grande Apartments, 800 N. Azusa Ave. Police tape cordoned off the area. Police officers were busy speaking with residents and photographing a potential crime scene. The suspect is only described as a man in his 20s. he wore black hair, stood 5 feet 8 inches tall and wore a grey shirt and dark pants. |
