Callers reported the fire near Big League Dreams Sports Park, 2100 S. Azusa Ave., around 3:25 p.m. February 15. The fire was extinguished relatively quickly, according to Lt. Keith Shishido of the West Covina Police Department. No one was injured. The fire burned behind Tiger Stadium at the complex. Shishido did not know the origin of the fire or if it could have been intentionally set. It [Arson] is a possibility and they are looking it, but as of right now it’s not confirmed,” Shishido told SGV CityWatch. The fire interrupted at least one game. Video shared through social media showed softball players standing idle at the sports complex as West Covina Fire trucks positioned themselves to protect lives and property as thick black smoke rose in the distance. No damage to any structure was reported. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - A driver reportedly ran a red light and struck a stationary Sheriff’s Patrol SUV Tuesday morning, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The crash took place around 9 a.m. at East Valley Boulevard and South Sentous Avenue February 11. A driver ran a red light and hit the patrol SUV that was waiting for a green light, according to Lieutenant Adler of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. No one was injured, Adler said. Adler did not believe initially that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. The shooting was reported at West Workman Avenue and North Nora Avenue around 4:22 p.m. Officers arrived and could not locate a victim or a suspect, according to Lt. Tony Cortina of the West Covina Police Department. Officers did, however, find spent shell casings in the area. “We had [the scene] locked down, because we wanted our forensics people to process the scene,” Cortina told SGV CityWatch.
