The man, currently referred to as John Doe No. 153 by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, was found in the 1000 block of East Amar Road May 25 just before 5 p.m. “Although the cause of death has yet to be determined, the preliminary information and investigation Does not indicate foul play,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK – A 19-year-old Palmdale man was arrested, accused of causing a fiery three-vehicle crash that killed a woman Wednesday.
Noe L. Manzanarez was driving a 2022 Toyota Camry eastbound on the 210 freeway west of Azusa Avenue around 12:02 a.m. April 27 in the No. 1 lane. He crashed into the rear of a 2019 Nissan Sentra that was stopped due to heavy traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol. The still-unidentified female driver of the Nissan Sentra died at the scene. A 2007 Ford F-350 was hit on the left side by one of the vehicles in the first collision. The F-350’s driver, a Rancho Cucamonga man, was uninjured, according to the California Highway Patrol. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash. All lanes, except lane No. 5, were closed for nearly several hours during the investigation. All lanes were reopened at 3:15 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Manzanarez received minor injuries. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the Pomona Courthouse April 29. As many as two vehicles were involved in the crash that was reported just after midnight. One vehicle was allegedly being driven in excess of 100 miles per hour before crashing, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. As officers arrived on scene to the crash, they observed one vehicle already fully-engulfed in flames, according to the California Highway Patrol. One caller reported hearing the crash from their residence. Caltrans is en route to set up a closure. Officers were called to a welfare check at The Colony, 301 S. Glendora Ave. around 3 p.m. April 7. The male was apparently a resident, according to Lt. Brian Daniels of the West Covina Police Department. The cause of death has yet to be determined. Coroner investigators arrived by about 7 p.m. to take possession of the body, according to Aimee Earl, investigator with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The driver is still listed as John Doe #63, according to Sarah Ardalani, public information officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The collision occurred near South Nogales Avenue and Amanda Avenue around 3:35 a.m. Firefighters arrived and found the driver trapped inside the burning vehicle. The fire was extinguished and the driver, the only occupant, was declared dead at the scene, according to the West Covina Fire Department. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the West Covina Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team. The driver died at the scene of the crash at South Nogales Street and Amanda Street. Authorities were called to the scene around 3:35 a.m., according to the West Covina Police Department. Only one vehicle was reportedly involved in the crash and the unidentified driver was the sole occupant, according to the West Covina Police Department. The collision occurred in eastbound lanes of Valley Boulevard east of South Sentous Avenue January 15 around 5:58 a.m. The driver remained at the scene, according to Lt. Tim Rodgers of the West Covina Police Department. A statement was issued just after 8 a.m. Police asked drivers to avoid the area Valley Boulevard and South Sentous Avenue during the investigation. As the morning progressed, all lanes were opened with the exception of one eastbound lane. The pedestrian’s identity will be revealed once the next of kin have been notified. The man was identified as 46-year-old Elton Williams IV, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The 37-year-old woman who later died at a hospital remains publicly unidentified. Officers arrived to a reported shooting at an apartment in the 26600 block of South Azusa Avenue around 12:51 p.m. December 25 to find Williams already dead. Two children were removed from the location and were taken into protective custody. The children were later released to family members, according to the West Covina Police Department. Both Williams and the woman were in a dating relationship. “There was an altercation between the two which led to the shooting, which is still being investigated. The West Covina Police Department have no reason to believe there are any outstanding suspects or threat to the community,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. WEST COVINA - Detectives are reportedly still searching for a suspect or suspects involved in a double shooting that left one person dead at an apartment complex December 25. Officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of South Azusa Avenue at 12:51 p.m. Saturday. The surviving victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the West Covina Police Department. “The investigation is still ongoing and no suspects have been arrested or identified at this time,” the West Covina Police Department said in a written statement. All eastbound lanes at the Holt Avenue on ramp are closed for three to four hours for an investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. It appears a CHP officer spoke to a pedestrian on the west I-10 freeway near Holt Avenue around 5:47 a.m. The pedestrian allegedly said someone as trying to kill him. The pedestrian, only described as a male with tattoos then ran across traffic lanes to the center divider, according to the California Highway Patrol. The pedestrian was first hit by a vehicle’s side mirror as the pedestrian walked against traffic along the middle lanes of the freeway as he attempted to flag down drivers, according to the CHP. Around 6:04 a.m. came in the first report of the pedestrian possibly down in traffic lanes just west of Via Verde in the No. 3 and 4 lanes. By 6:19 a.m., CHP officers were requesting a hard closure of eastbound lanes. |
