No one was wounded by the gunfire which was reported around 8:50 p.m. October 22 at the mall, 112 Plaza Dr. “There was a subject that fired two rounds into the air and fled the scene. A vehicle is outstanding,” according to Lt. Brian Daniels of the West Covina Police Department. Daniels was unsure of exactly where the gunfire came from, but initial reports indicated gunfire was in the area of the parking structure. Daniels was unsure of the caliber of ammunition fired. The woman was found wounded by gunfire in the area of Tuesday Drive and Shakespeare Drive around 4:23 p.m. July 29. The woman’s wounds are considered not life-threatening, according to Lt. Tim Rodgers of the West Covina Police Department. Rodgers was unclear of the possible motive, or if the victim and suspect knew each other. The suspect was not in custody as of Sunday evening. Tuesday Drive and Shakespeare Drive were blocked to vehicles and pedestrians briefly during the investigation. WEST COVINA - California Highway Patrol officers are canvassing the westbound I-10 freeway near Vincent Avenue after a driver reported a suspect fired a weapon Friday night. The CHP responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. May 6. Freeway lanes near Azusa Avenue are also being checked, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the California Highway Patrol. The shooting was reported around 3:16 a.m. in the 100 block of North Grand Avenue. The victim and two suspects became involved in an unspecified confrontation. One of the two suspects produced a handgun and shot the victim, according to Public Information Officer Alexus Napoles of the West Covina Police Department. Both suspects fled. Napoles did not have suspect descriptions available, nor a possible motive. The man was identified as 46-year-old Elton Williams IV, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The 37-year-old woman who later died at a hospital remains publicly unidentified. Officers arrived to a reported shooting at an apartment in the 26600 block of South Azusa Avenue around 12:51 p.m. December 25 to find Williams already dead. Two children were removed from the location and were taken into protective custody. The children were later released to family members, according to the West Covina Police Department. Both Williams and the woman were in a dating relationship. “There was an altercation between the two which led to the shooting, which is still being investigated. The West Covina Police Department have no reason to believe there are any outstanding suspects or threat to the community,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. The unidentified suspect was spotted sitting in a vehicle by a West Covina Police officer assigned to the US Marshal Service Pacific Southwest Region Task Force in the 700 block of North Sunset Avenue, the Sheriff’s Department said. The shooting occurred just after 12:30 p.m. “The suspect was struck multiple times in the upper torso and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a written statement. A weapon was recovered at the scene. The US Marshal Service Pacific Southwest Region Task Force’s role to apprehend violent criminals, the Sheriff’s Department said.
