The vehicle had yet to be reported stolen, taken from a La Puente dealership. Officers pursued the driver, who is also a parolee-at-large, until he crashed into a tree and ran, according to Sgt. Chris Palaganas of the West Covina Police Department. Authorities attempted to stop the driver at Temple Avenue and Del Valle Avenue for a vehicle code violation March 19 around 2:03 a.m. The driver disabled the vehicle after striking a tree at South Glendora Avenue and West Spruce Street in West Covina. He fled for a short distance on foot. He received some injuries from the vehicle’s airbags which deployed during the crash, Palaganas told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of providing a fake name to officers, felony evading, driving a stolen vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia, Palaganas told SGV CityWatch. The fire burned at Rollingwood Apartments, 1901 E. Amar Rd. The fire potentially also affected two other units, forcing at least two other residents to be displaced, authorities said. First responders were sent to the apartment complex before 1 a.m., Sunday, March 5. Some surrounding apartment units were evacuated as a precaution during the fire fight, according to Lt. Nelson of the West Covina Police Department. Los Angeles county fire department arson investigators were called to assist west Covina firefighters with determining the cause, Nelson told SGV CityWatch. The suspected DUI driver’s passenger sustained major injuries and was hospitalized. Occupants in the other vehicle received minor injuries, according to the West Covina Police Department. The crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, at South Azusa Avenue and East Vine Avenue. A van and a sedan collided, sending the van into a power pole. Gabriela was shot and killed near Azusa Avenue and Amar Road January 2, 2021. Investigators believe she was the victim of gang violence and was likely misidentified. Gabriela was not involved in gangs or gang activity, according to the West Covina Police Department. "Detectives are keeping the details of the shooting and details regarding the suspect vehicle confidential. Detectives believe there are people that know who committed this horrific crime and would be able to provide these specific details to validate their reliability as a witness, which they believe could potentially solve the case," according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. Luis Alberto Banuelos, 32, was behind the wheel when he crashed at Sunset Avenue and Cameron Avenue around 9:10 p.m. December 1. Banuelos was booked on suspicion of DUI, assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run causing injury, according to the West Covina Police Department. After the crash, witnesses saw three suspect fleeing the scene. Officers caught Banuelos after a search. One person injured in the crash died after being hospitalized, according to the West Covina Police Department. Banuelos is being held in lieu of $50,000 ahead of an appearance in the West Covina courthouse, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Maliki Foust, Jr., 22, was found shot to death in a vehicle. Majarion Foust, 19, was wounded and later died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Maliki, listed as a Victorville resident, died from multiple gunshot wounds. His manner of death was homicide. Majarion has a pending examination, according to coroner records. Both men died in the 3400 block of South Sentous Avenue. West Covina Police officers were called around 10:45 p.m. November 2. It is not publicly clear if investigators have identified any suspects. Officers received a notification from the city’s Flock Safety camera network around 8 p.m. Officers located the stolen Mercedes S58 and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect refused, according to West Covina Police Community Relations Officer Alexus Napoles. No one was wounded by the gunfire which was reported around 8:50 p.m. October 22 at the mall, 112 Plaza Dr. “There was a subject that fired two rounds into the air and fled the scene. A vehicle is outstanding,” according to Lt. Brian Daniels of the West Covina Police Department. Officers responded to Walmart, 2753 E. Eastland Center Dr., Around 3:21 p.m. September 18 and investigated third-hand information that a customer wearing white shorts and white slippers inside the store made some sort of claim to a bomb, according to Lt. Brian Daniels of the West Covina Police Department. Employees began looking around the store for the suspect before calling 9-1-1. Police cleared the store at 4:47 PM, Daniels told SGV CityWatch.
