The collision was reported on Temple Avenue near Railroad Street at 7:12 a.m. One minor injury was reported, but it was unclear if the vehicle’s driver or a train passenger suffered minor injuries. No one was taken to a hospital, according to Inspector Scott Elliott of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The driver exited the vehicle before the train struck it, according to Sgt. Gutierrez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
Deputies worked on rerouting street traffic until the car could be moved far enough from the tracks for the train to continue to Los Angeles. The Los Angeles-bound train continued on an hour behind schedule. Firefighters left the scene at 7:31 a.m., Elliott said. The collision occurred near North Echelon Avenue and Pocono Street around 9:25 p.m. February 2. The victim, only described as a Hispanic man, was hospitalized and later declared dead, according to CHP officer Tony Polizzi. Polizzi did not have any indication the collision was a hit and run. |
