INDUSTRY - The suspect shot by a Sheriff’s deputy during an altercation was hospitalized in unknown condition Thursday morning.

The suspect struggled with the deputy after the suspect allegedly tried to take the deputy’s patrol vehicle and gun in the 2600 block of Pellissier Place, according to Lt. Scott Hoglund of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.

The deputy was inside the 7-Eleven, 2600 Pellissier Pl., around 3:22 a.m. when he heard a collision. The deputy stepped outside and witnessed a woman fleeing a black sedan which struck a parked vehicle and signage.

The suspect driver chased after the woman, but turned his attention to the deputy.

“During that time the suspect changed his travel. The suspect went towards the deputy’s parked, black and white SUV Sheriff’s patrol vehicle towards the driver door. The deputy believed the suspect was trying to get into the car,” Hoglund said.

The deputy got into a physical altercation with the suspect who then tried to grab the deputy’s gun.

The deputy shot the suspect at least once, but the suspect fled into the 7-Eleven’s back room, found a female employee and held her hostage, Hoglund said.

More deputies arrived and persuaded the suspect to release his hostage. The suspect was then detained and later hospitalized, Hoglund said.

INDUSTRY - Authorities are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that resulted from a reported crash and domestic fight Thursday morning.

The suspect allegedly lunged after a deputy responding to the crash near 7-Eleven in the 2600 block of Pellissier Road around 3:21 a.m. The suspect tried to grab the deputy’s gun, but the deputy fought him back and opened fire, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies arriving to the crash scene saw the suspect hitting a female companion, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The suspect fled into the nearby 7-Eleven after being shot and allegedly grabbed the female employee and barricaded himself with her inside a bathroom.

The suspect surrendered and was hospitalized for his wounds.

The Peck Road off ramp from the northbound 605 freeway is closed for an unknown duration during the investigation.
