Firefighters have gone an estimated 60 to 80 feet into the flood control channel under the 60 freeway, but have yet to find the seat of the fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - One person was found dead at the scene of a large-scale pallet fire in Industry early Sunday. Nothing has been publicly revealed of the person who was found dead at the fire, which was dispatched to firefighters just after 3:30 a.m. in the 14600 block of Proctor Avenue. More than 50 firefighters worked to contain the blaze, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A second-alarm response was called for additional resources to help with extinguishing difficult-to-access hotspots and a lengthy cleanup, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. Pallets were stacked 20 feet high at the yard and roughly 50 percent of the pallets in the yard were in flames, according to L.A. County Fire radio traffic.
Firefighters were pumping more than 350 gallons per minute at one point during the initial response and requested higher water pressure to supply the numerous large-diameter hose lines. Cause investigators are examining the start of the fire. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - A California Highway Patrol officer was hospitalized after the officer’s patrol vehicle caught fire Sunday morning. The vehicle became engulfed after a mechanical issue on the Fairway Drive on ramp to the eastbound 60 freeway just before 9 a.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The officer was hospitalized for precautionary measures, according to Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the California Highway Patrol.  Google Maps. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Firefighters believe the HVAC system at a 24 Hour Fitness is causing a smoke scare at Puente Hills Mall Monday. Firefighters were called to Puente Hills Mall, 1600 S. Azusa Ave., at 10:17 a.m. and arrived three minutes later to investigate a potential commercial building fire. They found smoke on the second story of the mall, according to Vanessa Lozano of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire is 50 feet by 50 feet wide and is affecting large trees nearby between a parking lot and a nearby structure, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire, dispatched at 4:01 p.m., is not threatening any nearby structures. |
