Investigators located the 1998-2002 silver four-door Honda Accord Thursday around 2:30 p.m. The suspect was arrested and booked at the Sheriff’s Industry Station, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Surveillance video caught the hit-and-run, which occurred at the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Gemini Street Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. The driver, only described as a man, was southbound on Azusa Avenue while the victims were crossing eastbound from the west curb line on Gemini Street. The driver failed to stop for a red light and struck both victims who sustained minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect’s name is unavailable at the time this story was posted. The suspect is still in the process of being booked, according to Lt. Kearney of the Sheriff’s Industry Station. The child was identified as 8-year-old Phillip Rosas, a Covina resident, according to Sarah Ardalani, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. An exam is scheduled to determine exact cause of death. The alleged drunk driver, described as a 30-year-old man, remains hospitalized with a leg injury, according to Sgt. Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. First responders were called to the scene just after 1 a.m. Sunday. The impact forced one of the vehicles up onto a sidewalk. A hydrant was sheared off in the crash. Rosas was accompanied by three others, including a 12-year-old, inside the vehicle struck by the alleged drunk driver. The suspected drunk driver was alone in the vehicle he drove. The charges he would be booked on once medically cleared are still under investigation, Hernandez told SGV CityWatch. The alleged drunk driver, a 30-year-old man, was hospitalized in stable condition. The two children were listed in critical condition, according to Sgt. Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The crash was dispatched just after 1 a.m. May 8 at Valley Boulevard and North Grand Avenue. The impact forced one or both vehicles up onto a sidewalk outside of a nearby Applebee’s. The two others accompanying the children were last described as being in stable condition, Hernandez told SGV CityWatch. The collision also sheared a fire hydrant. The unidentified pedestrian died at the scene. A Sig Alert was issued around 8:06 p.m. for the No. 4 lane. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CITY OF INDUSTRY - A man wanted for reckless driving was taken into custody after recklessly fleeing deputies late Thursday night.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Carlos Barrera, was booked on suspicion of DUI, felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, according to Sgt. Molina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The pursuit began around 11:23 p.m. in the area of Hambeldon Avenue and Valley Boulevard, Molina told SGV CityWatch. Barrera was reportedly weaving across all lanes and refused to stop, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Barrera allegedly at first led deputies on an exceedingly slow pursuit, sometimes moving at 10 miles per hour. A deputy successfully used the PIT maneuver on Barrera, who then allegedly rammed the deputy’s patrol vehicle at Hurley Street and South Shipman Avenue, wounding him, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. “He suffered swelling and pain to his left knee,” Molina said of the injured deputy. When the crash occurred, the deputy wound up halfway outside his damaged patrol vehicle, Molina told SGV CityWatch. As the pursuit progressed, Barrera allegedly increased his speed to around 60 miles per hour while slithering through residential and business areas. The patrol vehicle allegedly struck by Barrera was still operational, despite spraying engine fluid on the windshield, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. After Barrera slowed down, deputies attempted two more PIT maneuvers, the third times the charm with the suspect’s vehicle becoming disabled at Temple Avenue and Greycliff. Barrera allegedly refused to surrender. Deputies fired pepper ball rounds to get Berrera to flee, Molina told SGV CityWatch. Barrera finally did surrender. The collision occurred as a driver was exiting the Chevron gas station, 221 S. Hacienda Blvd., around 7:51 p.m. September 23. The southbound motorcyclist collided with the front end of the vehicle, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The rider died at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The motorcycle rider has yet to be identified publicly. Next of kin has not been notified. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The crash was reported at 6:17 a.m. on the west 60 freeway east of Fairway Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. Possibly one other vehicle was involved in the crash that occurred that is affecting the HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes. A Sig Alert affected the mentioned lanes, but has since been cancelled, the California Highway Patrol said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - The driver of a vehicle that crashed at the end of a short-lived pursuit was taken into custody late Monday night, a Sheriff’s sergeant said. The driver is accused of burglarizing a sushi restaurant in Walnut at 316 N. Lemon Ave. around 10:40 p.m., according to Sgt. Davis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. The unidentified driver was one of multiple suspects who evaded the Industry station deputies pursuing them, according to Sgt. Itani of the Sheriff’s Industry Station.
The pursuit began at the 60 freeway at Crossroads Parkway, Itani told SGV CityWatch. The pursuit driver crashed in the area of East Temple Avenue and Puente Avenue in La Puente around 11:05 p.m. It was unclear to Davis what may have been taken in the burglary. The owner was not available at the time to determine if anything was taken. The collision occurred around 12:50 p.m. October 6 at South Fullerton Road and East Gale Avenue. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies are investigating if the death was accidental or suicide, according to Sgt. Matthew Shackelford of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Traffic was unaffected since the collision occurred in an area of South Fullerton Road and East Gale Avenue closed for continued work on the Fullerton Road grade separation, Shackelford said. A Sig Alert has been issued for an unknown duration for all westbound lanes. None of the food has spilled from the semi, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 9:54 p.m., according to the CHP. An unspecified sedan may have been involved in the crash. Some impatient drivers are using the Fullerton Road on ramp to exit the freeway, the CHP said. Someone was seen fleeing the scene of the crash. A police helicopter was called to search, but the suspect has not been located. |
