CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The man struck and killed by a public transit bus was identified recently. Chi Wong, a 79-year-old Hacienda Heights man, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. He died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. Wong’s death was ruled accidental. A Foothill Transit bus was turning out of the Puente Hills Mall parking lot to go northbound on Azusa Avenue from Pepper Brook Way when it struck Wong around 5:42 p.m. September 23. It is not publicly clear if Wong was in a marked crosswalk when he was struck. The driver may have had a green light to turn, according to the California Highway Patrol. CityWatch Editor CITY OF INDUSTRY - A northbound Foothill Transit bus headed for La Habra struck and killed a pedestrian Monday afternoon. The collision occurred on Azusa Avenue at Pepper Brook Way around 5:42 p.m. September 23. Eight passengers were on the bus. Neither they, nor the driver, were injured. The pedestrian, who has yet to be publicly identified, died at the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CITY OF INDUSTRY - A pedestrian either jumped, or accidentally fell from the 605 freeway onto a public street Tuesday afternoon.
First responders were sent to Cloverleaf Drive under the 605 freeway overpass just after 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatches. The pedestrian died at the scene, according to Sgt. Del Valle of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Del Valle did not know the circumstances that led to the death. No one else was involved. An image shared by a CityWatch reader showed traffic on Cloverleaf under the 605 freeway blocked by crime scene tape and law enforcement speaking with possible witnesses. The pedestrian’s identity has not yet been publicly shared. Firefighters have gone an estimated 60 to 80 feet into the flood control channel under the 60 freeway, but have yet to find the seat of the fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. A Los Angeles County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team has been requested. The alleged drunk driver, a 30-year-old man, was hospitalized in stable condition. The two children were listed in critical condition, according to Sgt. Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The crash was dispatched just after 1 a.m. May 8 at Valley Boulevard and North Grand Avenue. The impact forced one or both vehicles up onto a sidewalk outside of a nearby Applebee’s. The two others accompanying the children were last described as being in stable condition, Hernandez told SGV CityWatch. The collision also sheared a fire hydrant. The unidentified pedestrian died at the scene. A Sig Alert was issued around 8:06 p.m. for the No. 4 lane. A Sig Alert was issued for the No. 4 lane, but was lifted at 9:54 p.m., according to Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the California Highway Patrol The victim was described as possibly a female. The crash was reported at 6:17 a.m. on the west 60 freeway east of Fairway Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. Possibly one other vehicle was involved in the crash that occurred that is affecting the HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes. A Sig Alert affected the mentioned lanes, but has since been cancelled, the California Highway Patrol said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - At least one person was injured in a crash that overturned a semi hauling food on the westbound 60 freeway just east of Azusa Avenue. A Sig Alert has been issued for an unknown duration for all westbound lanes. None of the food has spilled from the semi, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 9:54 p.m., according to the CHP. An unspecified sedan may have been involved in the crash. Some impatient drivers are using the Fullerton Road on ramp to exit the freeway, the CHP said. Someone was seen fleeing the scene of the crash. A police helicopter was called to search, but the suspect has not been located. The crash was dispatched to firefighters just before 1 p.m. May 10 at East Valley Boulevard and South Stimson Avenue. Three occupants were trapped, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A newer white van and what appeared to be a silver truck collided. The truck flipped on its roof. A helicopter was called to transport at least one victim to an area trauma center. Ground ambulances were called to transport others. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - A Sig Alert has been extended until at least 3:30 p.m. after a trailer hauling 28,000 pounds of rims overturned on the eastbound 60 freeway off ramp at Azusa Avenue Tuesday. The container and chassis overturned around 11:30 a.m. The off ramp remains closed while the Sig Alert is active, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two engines from the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to the scene at 11:28 a.m., but it is unclear if any one was injured. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station is investigating the crash, the CHP said. |
