CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The man struck and killed by a public transit bus was identified recently. Chi Wong, a 79-year-old Hacienda Heights man, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. He died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. Wong’s death was ruled accidental. A Foothill Transit bus was turning out of the Puente Hills Mall parking lot to go northbound on Azusa Avenue from Pepper Brook Way when it struck Wong around 5:42 p.m. September 23. It is not publicly clear if Wong was in a marked crosswalk when he was struck. The driver may have had a green light to turn, according to the California Highway Patrol. CityWatch Editor CITY OF INDUSTRY - A northbound Foothill Transit bus headed for La Habra struck and killed a pedestrian Monday afternoon. The collision occurred on Azusa Avenue at Pepper Brook Way around 5:42 p.m. September 23. Eight passengers were on the bus. Neither they, nor the driver, were injured. The pedestrian, who has yet to be publicly identified, died at the scene. CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Deputies detained a person of interest in the murder of a man at an Industry business Monday. Deputies detained the man upon arrival to the business in the 18600 block of Gale Avenue July 15. The victim, an Asian man found with apparent gunshot wounds to the upper torso, was found dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “The person of interest is a former employee of the business where the victim was employed and working during the time of the incident,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. First responders were called to the scene around 8:49 a.m. Anyone with information on this shooting is urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. CityWatch Editor UPDATE: 12:32 p.m.: Homicide Detectives have confirmed one male adult died from a gunshot wound in the 18600 block of Gale Avenue. INDUSTRY - Deputies are investigating a reported shooting that took place at a business complex in City of Industry Monday morning. Very little information is available but first responders were sent to the 18600 block of Gale Avenue around 8:49 a.m. Monday, July 15. Firefighters were dispatched to the location for a gunshot victim, but Craig Little of the Los Angeles County Fire Department does not know how many victims were shot or if anyone was transported or died at the scene. Sgt. Miguel Jimenez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station declined to provide specific details. He did not know yet if Homicide Detectives will be handling the investigation. Francis Gil Cruz, 36, died from blunt force injuries. His death was ruled a suicide. First responders were sent to Cloverleaf Drive under the 605 freeway overpass just after 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatches. Cruz died at the scene. First responders were sent to Cloverleaf Drive under the 605 freeway overpass just after 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatches. The pedestrian died at the scene, according to Sgt. Del Valle of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Del Valle did not know the circumstances that led to the death. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The 17-year-old girl who killed herself after reportedly wrestling away a deputy’s gun was named Tuesday.
Johanna Gonzalez died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Gonzalez knocked on the lobby doors to the Sheriff’s Industry Station, 150 N. Hudson Ave., around 7:40 p.m. Sunday, March 24. Deputies greeted her at the doors. “The juvenile lunged into the lobby and reached for the deputy’s holstered firearm and took possession of it. A struggle ensued between the deputies and juvenile who was armed with the deputy’s firearm. During the struggle, the juvenile suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. Gonzalez died at the scene. Deputies were called to the home of Gonzalez’s foster parent just before 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Clintwood Avenue on a family disturbance that same night. “The juvenile’s foster parent reported that the juvenile was suffering from an apparent mental health crisis. Deputies responded to the scene; however, the juvenile had already left on foot before the deputies arrived,” according to the Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. The girl traveled one mile to the Industry Station. No one else was hurt during the shooting. The incident unfolded in the lobby of the industry, sheriffs station, 150 N. Hudson Ave., around 7:40 p.m. March 24. “The female Hispanic was knocking on the front door lobby. When deputies approached the front door lobby they came in contact with the female Hispanic. A altercation ensued. It is alleged that the female reached for the deputy’s , retrieved the firearm from the deputy’s holster. During the altercation, it is alleged the female suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound with what we believe to be the deputy’s firearm,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim may be tied to a call earlier in the day to a family disturbance. The Industry Station lobby is currently closed to visitors. All business lines and 9-1-1 lines are still operational, according to the Industry Sheriff’s Station. The woman entered the store, 2160 Valley Blvd, around 1:50 p.m., put the merchandise in a tote and left without paying, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspect is described as Latino and stands 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall. She wore blue jean pants, a tan coat, a pink scarf, blue face mask and brown tote bag. Anyone who can identify this suspect is urged to call the Sheriff’s Industry Station and speak with the detective bureau at 626-330-3322. Firefighters have gone an estimated 60 to 80 feet into the flood control channel under the 60 freeway, but have yet to find the seat of the fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. A Los Angeles County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team has been requested. |
