Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - The suspect shot by a Sheriff’s deputy during an altercation was hospitalized in unknown condition Thursday morning.
The suspect struggled with the deputy after the suspect allegedly tried to take the deputy’s patrol vehicle and gun in the 2600 block of Pellissier Place, according to Lt. Scott Hoglund of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The deputy was inside the 7-Eleven, 2600 Pellissier Pl., around 3:22 a.m. when he heard a collision. The deputy stepped outside and witnessed a woman fleeing a black sedan which struck a parked vehicle and signage. The suspect driver chased after the woman, but turned his attention to the deputy. “During that time the suspect changed his travel. The suspect went towards the deputy’s parked, black and white SUV Sheriff’s patrol vehicle towards the driver door. The deputy believed the suspect was trying to get into the car,” Hoglund said. The deputy got into a physical altercation with the suspect who then tried to grab the deputy’s gun. The deputy shot the suspect at least once, but the suspect fled into the 7-Eleven’s back room, found a female employee and held her hostage, Hoglund said. More deputies arrived and persuaded the suspect to release his hostage. The suspect was then detained and later hospitalized, Hoglund said. |
