The hit-and-run driver is still at-large and a family is left reeling from the aftermath that took the life of John Spata, a 56-year-old Temple City man. The collision occurred around 7 p.m. near Lower Azusa Road and Peck Road. The collision was caught on nearby surveillance camera. The driver of the dark-colored truck appeared to drive in the path of Spata before striking him and fleeing, according to the El Monte Police Department. The truck appeared to feature chrome bumpers. A second vehicle described as a white sedan may have run over Spata after the initial collision, El Monte Police said. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run driver is urged to call El Monte Police at 626-580-2100. Investigators believe drunk driving is to blame for the crash that occurred around 5:30 a.m. at East Lower Azusa Road and North Peck Road December 13. A Toyota Tundra and Nissan Versa collided. The Tundra’s driver was taken to County USC/Medical Center. A passenger in the Versa died at the scene. The Versa’s driver was hospitalized, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. Preliminary information from the scene suggested that one of the drivers may have been driving under the influence. Investigators are waiting for lab results to show blood alcohol levels to determine sobriety, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. The collision occurred around 8:07 p.m. at Cedar Avenue and Lower Azusa Road. Preliminarily, the Jeep was east on Lower Azusa Road and the motorcycle was westbound. Both vehicles collided head-on, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. The Jeep sustained major damage. The Ducati is a total loss, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. The Jeep’s adult driver was uninjured. He was arrested and booked on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A driver who led officers on a chase into the City of Industry Saturday was jailed after crashing near some railroad tracks. A patrol officer attempted to stop the driver around 11 p.m. August 29 at Peck Road and Garvey Avenue, but the driver refused to yield, according to Lt. Doug Knight of the El Monte Police Department. The driver reportedly was wanted for reckless driving, according to Lieutenant Pete Rasic of El Monte Police.
The pursuit lasted roughly 15 to 20 minutes before It ended in the city of industry at Valley Boulevard and Fairway Avenue near the Union Pacific railroad tracks. The driver was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer, reckless driving and assault with a deadly weapon, Knight told SGV CityWatch. The suspects name was not readily available.

EL MONTE - A man behind the wheel of a flatbed tow truck was arrested Saturday after he destroyed a bus stop and multiple vehicles during an alleged DUI tirade.
The marathon of destruction occurred around 7 p.m. and spanned two blocks on Valley Boulevard between Gibson Road and Baldwin Avenue June 6. The driver stopped after striking a fence in a parking lot in the northeast corner of Valley Boulevard and Baldwin, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. In a cell phone recording shared by Xai Urrutia on Youtube, the tow truck from Angel City Towing entered a parking lot and struck five parked vehicles as frightened onlookers fled mere feet from being hit. The driver stepped on the gas after the tow truck briefly became stuck. The truck became free and hit another parked vehicle as angry onlookers climbed onto the truck to remove the driver.
After the driver side window was shattered, two men entered the cab and apparently beat the driver.
The suspect, Alex Daniel Moreno 39, was medically cleared before being booked on suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended license and felony hit and run, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. It is unclear if Moreno is a driver for Angel City Towing. There was no report of a stolen tow truck made to police, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. No other arrests were made. The crash occurred January 18 around 9:30 p.m. at Garvey Avenue and Washington Avenue. One vehicle broadsided another. A 12-year-old boy was ejected in the crash, according to the El Monte Police Department. The driver of a blue Chevrolet Suburban fled the crash and remains out of custody, El Monte Police said.
The boy, initially listed in critical condition was upgraded to stable, El Monte Police said. Two other occupants received minor injuries. The crash occurred near Valley Boulevard and Rumford Avenue around 8:40 p.m. December 8. Three patients critical patients were extricated and taken to an area trauma center, according to Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman. An occupant only described as a male adult was later pronounced deceased, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. Rasic did not know if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. He did not immediately know which of the injured belonged to which vehicle. The California Highway Patrol shut down the southbound off ramp from the 605 freeway to Valley Boulevard during an investigation for at least two hours. The crash was first reported at 5:22 a.m. Both victims killed in the crash died at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Moises Marroquin. Three other people received a minor injuries in the crash, according to the Los Angeles county fire department, but it was not immediately known if those three injured were taken into area hospitals. The collision occurred at the crossing in the 3200 block of North Cogswell Road just after 10 a.m. The pedestrian died at the scene, according to Inspector Scott Elliott of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Los Angeles-Bound train 319 collided with the pedestrian. The tracks between Baldwin Park and El Monte are closed, according to a statement issued by Metrolink.

Police were called to the crash around 5:39 a.m. January 6. Both El Monte Police officers and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash. Firefighters arrived and declared the female adult dead at the scene, according to the El Monte Police Department.
It does not appear if alcohol, drugs, distracted driving or weather played a factor in the collision. The driver remained at the scene, El Monte Police said. It was not immediately known if the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred. |
