Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – A man and woman tied to a daring home burglary spent a few nights in a cold cell after police tracked them down and arrested them last month.
Neighbors rushed to aid a woman, the victim of a home burglary February 20. She returned home in the 1000 block of South Glendora Avenue around 5 p.m. to find an armed man inside her home. He stole her cell phone as he fled, according to the Glendora Police Department. The suspect ran into a waiting black sedan that sped away. "Responding officers quickly identified both of the suspects through video surveillance from prior incidents involving mail theft, and from prior contacts with them,” according to the Glendora Police Department. Gabriel Arroyo, a 44-year-old Azusa man, and Aimee Rodriguez, a 43-year-old Baldwin Park woman, were arrested without further incident. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count each of residential burglary against both suspects. Arroyo posted $50,000 bond. Rodriguez remained in custody in lieu of $125,000 until an initial scheduled court appearance. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – Methamphetamine and tools commonly used in vehicle burglaries were discovered after a bicyclist was stopped March 3, police said. Christopher Rangel, 36, was stopped on a bicycle near Grand Avenue and Route 66 at 1 a.m. Wednesday after allegedly committing a traffic violation. During the investigation, the officer discovered methamphetamine, a vehicle wedge pump, several lock picks and numerous vehicle keys, according to the Azusa Police Department. “An air wedge like the one photographed is commonly used by car burglars to pry open vehicle doors,’ according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. Rangel was arrested and booked on suspicion of being in possession of burglary tools and narcotics. Rangel was issued a citation and released. Los Angeles County booking information did not specify a future court date. Martin Duzdabanyan, 38, was seen fleeing the Goodwill, 526 W. Foothill Blvd., and entering a vehicle parked behind the business Thursday, February 11. Officers found stolen items from within the store, including the security DVR system, according to the Glendora Police Department. Officers responded to Goodwill at 12:35 a.m. after the business’ alarm company called Glendora Police. Duzdabanyan posted $20,000 bond and was released at 5:59 p.m. February 12. He is scheduled for an appearance at the West Covina courthouse Wednesday, February 17, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Officers arrived and confirmed a residential burglary took place when suspects entered through a side door at a home in the 1000 block of East Bradford Drive. Officers were called to the home at 8:04 p.m., according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. The suspects were described as possibly four males and one female. The suspects fled with items in their hands, Celello told SGV CityWatch. “A neighbor knew the resident wasn’t home and saw people running out,” Celello told SGV CityWatch. A helicopter was called to search the area, but the search yielded nothing. Two female college students awoke to find a naked Jesse Alexander Hunter showering in their apartment at Avalon Glendora, 121 E. Route 66 around 5:42 a.m. Police responded in 91 seconds, but the metal front door was locked — a naked Hunter blocked one victim from escaping a bedroom, according to the Glendora Police Department. “The victim forced her way past the suspect and was able to open the front door for the officers. The suspect was then immediately taken into custody,” Glendora Police said in a written statement. The female victims told officers they have no idea how Hunter entered their apartment and never met him before, Glendora Police said. Hunter, 38, is a registered sex offender on Post Release Community Supervision. He told officers he arrived to Glendora by bus and had no other reason to be in town. He also had a no-bail violation of PRCS at the time of his arrest, Glendora Police said. Hunter’s case was filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which filed two counts of burglary, one count of attempted rape and one count of providing false information to an officer. Hunter is being held without bail. He faces a possible maximum of nearly 23 years in prison if convicted as charged. Jacob Anthony Tovar was taken into custody without further incident in the 100 block of West Colorado Avenue January 17 -- two blocks from where the reported burglary occurred, according to Lt. Marty Barrett of the Glendora Police Department. Police responded around 5:40 p.m.
A vigilant resident witnessed the crime in progress and called police, Barrett said. Tovar was found in a resident’s yard and taken into custody without further incident, Barrett said. Tovar was booked on suspicion of burglary, possession of a controlled substance and for a misdemeanor warrant, according to Glendora Police booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - One burglary suspect is in custody after fleeing the scene of a home burglary and after allegedly fighting with an officer Thursday afternoon.
Officers responded to a home in the 900 block of South Bradish Avenue at 4:48 p.m. October 31. A vigilant neighbor reported a burglary in progress, according to Lt. Marty Barrett of the Glendora Police Department. Police arrived to the home and saw the suspect fleeing. The suspect reportedly refused to comply with commands to stop. Officers tried to detain the suspect and a fight began, Barrett said. The suspect continued to run. Officers established a perimeter and were able to arrest him. The officer received some scrapes and bruises. The suspect was hospitalized as a precaution before being cleared for booking, Barrett said. Officers found signs of forced entry into the home, Barrett said. Lewis Eugene Erlenmeyer, 54, was arrested in the 2200 block of East Baseline Road. He was booked on suspicion of residential burglary, obstructing or resisting an executive officer and violating his parole, according to a Glendora Police booking records. Erlenmeyer is being held without bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse November 4. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Police are seeking more victims of a prolific burglary and theft suspect caught October 1 after fleeing Glendora officers. Police served additional search warrants after the arrest of Azusa man Eric Matthew Ramirez, 34, at a home and storage facility and confiscated alleged stolen property belonging to more than 80 identified victims, Glendora Police said. The items taken exceed $10,000 in value, Glendora Police said. Police still seek the owners of dozens of items that have yet to be claimed. A theft from a vehicle occurred around 8:30 p.m. October 1 near Glendora Mountain Road and Big Dalton Canyon Road.
Glendora police tracked some of the stolen property to an Azusa home. Among the stolen items are two handguns. Ramirez was located hiding in residential yard roughly near Angeleno Street and Paramount Street in Azusa. He fled over numerous walls to avoid capture and injured his eye before being cuffed. The suspects in a white Toyota Corolla evaded officers on several freeways east to the Chino/Ontario border where the suspects crashed and fled on foot. The California Highway Patrol, Ontario Police and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopter helped Glendora find and arrest Long Beach men Johnnie Brown, 28, and Roger Kirksey, 19. Police still seek a third suspect, 20-year-old Devon Gulley of Long Beach. “Investigation tied the suspects to an additional pharmacy burglary in a nearby city and an attempted restaurant burglary in Glendora,” according to Glendora Police. “It is believed they are responsible for additional burglaries in the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire.”
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges against all three men, including reckless evading, commercial burglary, attempted commercial burglary, and vandalism. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A Baldwin Park woman accused of mail theft and burglary was arrested May 18 after leading police on a brief chase. Jennifer Lopez, 44, from Baldwin Park, was arrested after driving into a cul-de-sac in Azusa where she surrendered to officers. She fled from them when they tried to stop her for reckless driving Saturday afternoon, according to the Glendora Police Department. During a vehicle search of the Toyota Camry Lopez was driving, police found mail from all over Glendora, including large delivered packages. Lopez also apparently almost ran over one of her victims as she fled while being confronted, Glendora Police said. Lopez and an unidentified man were also caught on surveillance camera attempting to burglarize a home in the 300 block of North Glendora Avenue May 18 -- the morning of the pursuit.
The male accomplice remains outstanding. The District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Lopez, including assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, residential burglary, felony identity theft and narcotics possession.
