BREAKING NEWS: Deputy-Involved Shooting Investigation Underway in Industry

UPDATE, 5 p.m., February 17: Investigators helped shed a little more light on the police shooting that occurred in City of Industry February 16.

​A deputy on patrol witnessed a reckless driver drive through a red light at the intersection of Gale Avenue and Azusa Avenue eastbound. The deputy attempted to locate the driver to initiate a traffic stop and eventually found the suspect had crashed into a traffic light In the 18200 block of Gale Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect attempted to flee the crash vehicle as the deputy arrived on scene. The suspect apparently was armed. The deputy open fire, but did not strike the suspect. No one was injured in this incident. The suspect was hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.

INDUSTRY - A major crime incident is being investigated in the area of Gale Avenue and Fullerton Road after an incident led to deputy gunfire Tuesday night.

The suspect sustained injuries considered not life-threatening during a previous incident and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to Sgt. Armando Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.

The incident occurred in the 18200 block of Gale Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. February 16.

It is not yet clear what led to the shooting. A traffic collision occurred minutes before the police shooting and is likely related to the shooting, Martinez told SGV CityWatch.

A gun was reportedly recovered at the scene.

A large contingent of the deputies from surrounding Sheriff’s stations are on scene assisting with maintaining the crime scene, as well as detectives from the Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets bureau.

One Killed in Freeway Crash in Industry

CITY OF INDUSTRY – At Least one person was killed in a collision on the 60 freeway Thursday morning.

The crash was reported at 6:17 a.m. on the west 60 freeway east of Fairway Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Possibly one other vehicle was involved in the crash that occurred that is affecting the HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes. A Sig Alert affected the mentioned lanes, but has since been cancelled, the California Highway Patrol said.

Investigation Underway After Body Found Floating in Industry Riverbed

INDUSTRY - A dead body was found floating in two to three feet of water Friday morning, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

A passerby discovered the body near Workman Mill Road and Crossroads Parkway just before 8:30 a.m. December 11, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Tactical medics with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau responded to the scene.

It is not publicly known if foul play is the cause of death.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is now investigating.

SHOOTING UPDATE: Suspect Hit by Deputy Gunfire Attempted Two Robberies with an Assault Rifle

INDUSTRY - Deputies opened fire twice on a suspect reportedly armed with an assault rifle after he got into a confrontation with them Friday.

The suspect attempted to rob a CVS in La Puente and possibly a Shell gas station in Hacienda Heights while armed with what is described as an assault rifle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect attempted a robbery at a CVS, 861 N. Hacienda Blvd., in La Puente. He fled in a black Honda Accord. Deputies located the suspect at a Shell gas Station five minutes later around 1:08 a.m.

“As the deputies pulled up to the suspect in their patrol car, the suspect raised his rifle and said, ‘get some,’ at which point a deputy involved shooting occurred,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The suspect fled onto the west 60 freeway at high speed, only to crash while exiting onto Crossroads Parkway.

A second shooting occurred when the suspect slung his assault rifle towards the front of his chest, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The suspect was struck several times. He was hospitalized and his condition has still not been disclosed.

CITY OF INDUSTRY - A man is in unknown condition after being hit by deputy gunfire early Friday.

Two shootings occurred within the span of a few minutes. The first occurred at Gale Avenue and Hacienda Boulevard around 1:08 a.m. August 7. In Hacienda Heights.

A second deputy shooting occurred in the 13300 block of Crossroads Parkway in Industry, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The suspect’s condition has not been publicly shared.

What led to the two separate shootings has not been shared.

BREAKING NEWS: DUI Pursuit Ends With Tunnel Search Under Industry

CITY OF INDUSTRY - Deputies have ended their search of the watery flood control tunnels under Industry after a suspected DUI driver decided to flee in the San Gabriel River.

Deputies have just exited the flood control tunnels under Temple Avenue near Valley Boulevard after fresh, wet tracks left by the suspect disappeared. The suspect remains outstanding.

Deputies originally tried to pull over the alleged DUI driver in the area of Temple Avenue and Baldwin Park Boulevard about one hour ago.

The pursuit found its way to the northbound 605 freeway and eventually exited onto eastbound Live Oak Avenue where the driver evaded officers recklessly, driving on the wrong side of the road and running through stop signs through Baldwin Park.

Deputies on the ground canceled their pursuit, allowing a helicopter to track the driver’s movements until he decided to flee from his SUV on foot and run into the San Gabriel River, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic.

Person Killed by Deputy Gunfire in Industry Sunday

INDUSTRY - A male was wounded by and later died from deputy gunfire just before 2:30 a.m. June 7.

The shooting occurred near Railroad Street and Azusa Avenue. Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances behind the shooting. No deputies were injured, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Industry deputies responded to the above location on a report of a person possibly hit by a train. Deputies discovered a man kneeling next to some railroad tracks. The man, armed with a knife, rose to his feet and lunged towards deputies, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

After being shot, the male was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

​Walnut Burglary Suspect Arrested After Pursuit Into Industry

INDUSTRY - The driver of a vehicle that crashed at the end of a short-lived pursuit was taken into custody late Monday night, a Sheriff’s sergeant said.

The driver is accused of burglarizing a sushi restaurant in Walnut at 316 N. Lemon Ave. around 10:40 p.m., according to Sgt. Davis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station.
The unidentified driver was one of multiple suspects who evaded the Industry station deputies pursuing them, according to Sgt. Itani of the Sheriff’s Industry Station.

The pursuit began at the 60 freeway at Crossroads Parkway, Itani told SGV CityWatch.

The pursuit driver crashed in the area of East Temple Avenue and Puente Avenue in La Puente around 11:05 p.m.

It was unclear to Davis what may have been taken in the burglary. The owner was not available at the time to determine if anything was taken.

​One Found Dead at Scene of Large Pallet Fire in Industry

INDUSTRY - One person was found dead at the scene of a large-scale pallet fire in Industry early Sunday.

Nothing has been publicly revealed of the person who was found dead at the fire, which was dispatched to firefighters just after 3:30 a.m. in the 14600 block of Proctor Avenue. More than 50 firefighters worked to contain the blaze, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A second-alarm response was called for additional resources to help with extinguishing difficult-to-access hotspots and a lengthy cleanup, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Pallets were stacked 20 feet high at the yard and roughly 50 percent of the pallets in the yard were in flames, according to L.A. County Fire radio traffic.

Firefighters were pumping more than 350 gallons per minute at one point during the initial response and requested higher water pressure to supply the numerous large-diameter hose lines.

Cause investigators are examining the start of the fire.

INDUSTRY - Firefighters have called a second alarm response and estimate as many as 200 pallets are up in flames at a pallet yard.

Firefighters have responded to the 14600 block of East Proctor Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched just after 3:30 a.m. April 19, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic.
