Deputies responded to the mall, 1600 S. Azusa Ave., around 11:30 p.m. The man who was stabbed was taken to a hospital where he later died, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim, a white man age 30 to 35 years old, was found on a sidewalk outside the mall. A suspect was later arrested and a knife was recovered at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies responded to the 1500 block of Gale Avenue near Hacienda Boulevard around 8:49 a.m. and detained three suspects dressed in all black inside of an SUV at gunpoint, according to Sgt. Dubusky of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s industry Station. While the witness who viewed the suspects on camera claimed they were armed with rifles and handguns, Dubusky said that at least one loaded weapon was recovered. The witness who provided details of the crime in progress to deputies said that the suspects spray-painted security cameras over to prevent them from being seen, Dubusky told SGV CityWatch. Dubusky is still awaiting further details regarding the type of weapons the suspects were armed with, as detectives are still at the scene investigating. There is currently no threat to the public. Deputies were called to a business complex near Almahurst Street and Hanover Road Monday, November 14 at 8:50 p.m. “Responding units went out there. They determined it was a Southern California Edison device. It was meant to be there, so it wasn’t a suspicious item,” according to Sgt. Dubusky of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Nearby stores were reportedly evacuated while deputies contained the scene. Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail cleared the scene at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday. Investigators located the 1998-2002 silver four-door Honda Accord Thursday around 2:30 p.m. The suspect was arrested and booked at the Sheriff’s Industry Station, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Surveillance video caught the hit-and-run, which occurred at the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Gemini Street Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. The driver, only described as a man, was southbound on Azusa Avenue while the victims were crossing eastbound from the west curb line on Gemini Street. The driver failed to stop for a red light and struck both victims who sustained minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect’s name is unavailable at the time this story was posted. The suspect is still in the process of being booked, according to Lt. Kearney of the Sheriff’s Industry Station. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK – The California Highway Patrol has scheduled a DUI checkpoint for an undisclosed location of unincorporated Industry and West Covina.
The checkpoint will begin at 7 p.m. CHP officers trained in detecting driver impairment will staff the checkpoint and use handheld breath testing devices on those suspected of DUI. Every vehicle will be checked depending on traffic volume. If traffic is heavy, every third or fifth vehicle will be checked to ensure objectivity, according to the CHP. CHP Baldwin Park Office Captain Susan Estrem said checkpoints tend to, “reduce the number of drinking drivers on the road, even though arrest totals do not rise dramatically”. The psychological aspect of knowing checkpoints are happening is a valued deterrent. “We advise the news media well in advance whenever a checkpoint is planned, since extensive publicity also is viewed as a legal safeguard,” Estrem said in a written statement. Deputies are attempting to obtain a suspect description. The victim was reportedly shot in the river bed near the 605 freeway and the I-10 freeway, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. El Monte police officers were first called to the scene at 8:17 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies were later notified. Four suspects in dark hooded sweatshirts took an undisclosed amount of merchandise from Daniel’s Jewelers, 1600 S. Azusa Ave., June 11. Deputies were called to the store at 4:14 p.m., according to Sgt. Magdaleno of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. A blunt instrument was used to shatter glass display cases, Magdaleno told SGV CityWatch. Employees are performing an inventory on what was stolen, Magdaleno told SGV CityWatch. First responders were called to the 300 block of South Newquist Place south of Proctor Avenue around 11:43 p.m. May 11. The argument escalated, causing one man to cut the victim’s arm, according to Lt. Bernal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The injury is not considered serious, Bernal told SGV CityWatch. Bernal did not know what the argument was about. A suspect has not been arrested. A description was not readily available. |
