Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – A man wanted for a vehicle code violation decided to try and flee police, but wound up driving onto a newly-created dead-end street April 13.
Nicholas Hector Gomez fled an officer who attempted to stop him at Route 66 and Glendora Avenue around 4 p.m. He fled east towards Glenwood Avenue and turned north right to where construction crews severed the road for the L Line train, according to Lt. James DeMond of the Glendora Police Department. Before turning onto Glenwood, Gomez is accused of driving on the wrong side of the road. “He turned around, then he let the car roll and it and he got out and ran. The car struck a couple of parked cars,” DeMond told SGV CityWatch. Gomez, 34, was apprehended quickly after fleeing his ride. Gomez was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer with wonton disregard for safety, hit & run vehicle property damage, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, receiving known stolen property and for an outside felony warrant. He is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail, according to Glendora Police booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A tip from a Glendora resident helped investigators locate and arrest a man wanted in two November robberies, Glendora Police said.
27-year-old Bryan Cornejo of Duarte was tracked down to Ontario December 9 where he was found driving. He refused to stop and led police from Glendora and Ontario on a pursuit until he crashed and ran on foot, Glendora Police said. Cornejo was arrested without further incident. Officers found and seized a replica handgun used in the November 17 and November 25 robberies, according to the Glendora Police Department. In both robberies, Cornejo is accused of approaching lone individuals. He revealed a handgun and demanded property from his victims. Conejo fled with a wallet and sell phone in one robbery, a purse and the second, Glendora Police said. Search warrants were served at two residences and investigators recovered most of the stolen property, Glendora Police said. At the time of his arrest, Cornejo was on formal probation for a robbery committed in 2019, Glendora police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed three charges against Cornejo. One count of felony identity theft and two counts of second-degree robbery. “Cornejo has a previous conviction for robbery, which is a strike, however, a sentencing enhancement based on that conviction can no longer be alleged during criminal filing under the new County District Attorney charging directives,” Glendora police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A suspect was arrested and booked on suspicion of assault on an officer after he allegedly backed his SUV aggressively towards a deputy during a traffic stop Tuesday night.
Frank Hernandez, 47, is accused of backing his blue Chevrolet Silverado aggressively during a traffic stop at 13736 Valley Boulevard in Industry. The action forced the deputy to leap out of the way, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident occurred around 11:37 p.m. “As the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect suddenly put his vehicle in reverse, rapidly backed up toward the deputy, causing the deputy to jump out of the way to avoid being struck,” Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The suspect took off with the deputy pursuing west on Valley Boulevard. The pursuit stuck to surface streets at mostly 50 miles per hour, at times reaching 90 into Irwindale where the suspect fled east on Foothill Boulevard. Hernandez suddenly stopped on east Route 66 at Lorraine Avenue, fled the vehicle and disappeared briefly, before walking back to deputies to surrender, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. It is not immediately clear if Hernandez discarded illegal property before surrendering. A motive for fleeing is not immediately clear. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $201,250 bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Rio Hondo Municipal Court in El Monte December 11. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A driver of a white Chevrolet SUV was hospitalized for minor injuries Saturday after he crashed while evading police. The suspect was an unlicensed driver and fled police at high speed westbound on surface streets from Glendora to San Marino where he struck a light pole. The suspect refused to stop for officers on westbound Route 66 at Pasadena Avenue around 1 a.m. November 28. The officer tried to stop the driver who was running red lights, according to Sgt. Ryan Layaye of the Glendora Police Department.
The driver stopped briefly at Huntington Drive and Sunset Boulevard in Arcadia, but took off again west on Huntington Drive at a high rate of speed, Layaye told SGV CityWatch. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, crashed into a light pole at the northwest corner of Waverly Road and Huntington Drive in San Marino. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Victor Rodriguez. He was taken to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for treatment. Before the pursuit even began, 41-year-old stolen vehicle suspect Richard Brady allegedly struck a Glendora officer and struck two Glendora Police vehicles while attempting to elude capture, the Glendora Police Department announced. A stolen SUV was discovered in an undisclosed motel parking lot. Glendora officers and detectives attempted to detain Brady as he was leaving a motel room, but he was able to get away, Glendora Police said. Brady struck the officer, patrol cars and an additional parked vehicle before even leaving the parking lot. Brady fled west on the 210 freeway until he crashed near Citrus Avenue and fled on foot, but he caught with the assistance of Azusa Police officers, Glendora Police said. “Brady is on probation for vehicle theft and he also had an arrest warrant for theft,” Glendora Police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the case against Brady, charging him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless evading, vehicle theft and forgery. The officer who was struck sustained injuries and has since returned to work, Glendora Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A suspect with multiple outstanding warrants was taken into custody September 12 after crashing during a pursuit. Joaquin Pimentel, 28, was arrested and booked on suspicion of recklessly evading a peace officer, driving on a suspended or revoked license and reckless driving, according to Glendora Police booking records. An officer attempted to stop Pimentel for reckless driving in the 1300 block of Glendora Mountain Road around 8:48 p.m. Pimentel refused to stop and fled at high speed, according to Lt. Chris Stabio of the Glendora Police Department.
The officer discontinued the chase because of speed, but Pimentel crashed. He was detained without further incident, Stabio said. There were no injuries, Stabio said. Pimentel is being held in lieu of $830,000 bail for charges resulting from the pursuit and for the unrelated warrants, one of which were for serious or violent crimes, Stabio said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A man behind the wheel of a stolen blue BMW 530e escaped on foot after briefly fleeing pursuing officers Tuesday night. Police located and tried to stop a reported stolen BMW in the area of West Gladstone Street and South Reynolds Way around 7:31 p.m. June 25. The driver fled from police and ditched the stolen car in a residential side street, according to Sgt. Ryan Layaye of the Glendora Police Department. The BMW was reported stolen from Murietta June 24, Layaye said.
Officers found the abandoned car in 400 block of West Ghent Street. A search assisted by a helicopter yielded no suspects. He was last seen walking north on Shadyglen Drive and is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 10 inches tall, in a burgundy shirt, blue jeans and he wore sunglasses. Email Newsletter! | Advertise! | Donate! Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A driver was arrested Tuesday morning after deciding to flee a Glendora officer in a pursuit that spanned multiple cities and freeways. An officer witnessed suspicious activity at 12:24 a.m. at a 76 gas station, 106 E. Route 66, and believed a robbery was in progress. The officer tried to stop the driver who fled, according to Lt. James DeMond of the Glendora Police Department. The driver fled south to the eastbound 210 freeway, south on the 57 and to the east I-10 freeway into Pomona where he exited at Dudley, DeMond said. The driver re-entered to the west I-10 freeway and exited at northbound Grand Avenue. The suspect lightly struck a vehicle while stopping at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of West Wannamaker Drive in Covina. The driver and his female passenger both fled into an apartment unit, DeMond said, but the two emerged and were detained by police after officers surrounded the building.
Michael Carl Deakins, 47, was booked on suspicion of recklessly evading a peace officer, hit and run causing property damage and a felony parole violation, according to Glendora Police booking records. The suspects in a white Toyota Corolla evaded officers on several freeways east to the Chino/Ontario border where the suspects crashed and fled on foot. The California Highway Patrol, Ontario Police and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopter helped Glendora find and arrest Long Beach men Johnnie Brown, 28, and Roger Kirksey, 19. Police still seek a third suspect, 20-year-old Devon Gulley of Long Beach. “Investigation tied the suspects to an additional pharmacy burglary in a nearby city and an attempted restaurant burglary in Glendora,” according to Glendora Police. “It is believed they are responsible for additional burglaries in the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire.”
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges against all three men, including reckless evading, commercial burglary, attempted commercial burglary, and vandalism. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A Baldwin Park woman accused of mail theft and burglary was arrested May 18 after leading police on a brief chase. Jennifer Lopez, 44, from Baldwin Park, was arrested after driving into a cul-de-sac in Azusa where she surrendered to officers. She fled from them when they tried to stop her for reckless driving Saturday afternoon, according to the Glendora Police Department. During a vehicle search of the Toyota Camry Lopez was driving, police found mail from all over Glendora, including large delivered packages. Lopez also apparently almost ran over one of her victims as she fled while being confronted, Glendora Police said. Lopez and an unidentified man were also caught on surveillance camera attempting to burglarize a home in the 300 block of North Glendora Avenue May 18 -- the morning of the pursuit.
The male accomplice remains outstanding. The District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Lopez, including assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, residential burglary, felony identity theft and narcotics possession.
