One of the suspects hit the victim with what was described as the butt of a handgun after the suspect pried open a rear sliding glass door to the home August 12. A second victim, a 79-year-old woman, pointed the suspects to where cash was stashed before they ransacked the home, Pasadena Police said. The men pried their way in to the home in the 2100 block of Bridgen Road around 9:26 p.m. The male victim crouched down after being pistol-whipped. He only received minor injuries and was briefly hospitalized, Pasadena Police said. The unidentified suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Jonas Harry Leal was last seen in the area of Linda Vista around 2:30 p.m. August 14. He usually walks around the Rose Bowl, according to the Pasadena Police Department. Leal reportedly is not aware of his dementia diagnosis, Pasadena Police said. Leal is 6 feet 1inch tall and 170 pounds. He has gray hair, blue eyes was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, khaki pants and black dress shoes. Mr. Leal has a heavy Georgia accent. James White, 63, was last seen driving a dark green, 2009 Toyota Camry, with license plate number 6GTF484. It is unclear what clothing White was last wearing, according to Pasadena Police. White is 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds and has grey hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information on White’s whereabouts is urged to call the Pasadena Police Department at 626-744-4241. Kristoffer Caldwell, 38, from Pasadena, pleaded not guilty to one count of arson of an inhabited structure, according to Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Caldwell was taken into custody August 2 after witnesses saw him return to the fire, 30 W. Mountain Street. Caldwell apparently returned subsequent to the firefight and was detained by a fire investigator until police could take him into custody, according to Lt. Mark Goodman of the Pasadena Police Department. The fire gutted a 130-year-old, two-story Victorian home around 10:17 p.m. August 2. Firefighters arrived at 10:17 p.m. Caldwell is being held in lieu of $310,000 bail in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. Caldwell is scheduled to appear in the Pasadena Superior Courthouse August 29 for a preliminary hearing. The Sig Alert will last for about one hour and includes the San Rafael Avenue on ramp, the CHP said. The fire was reported around 12:35 p.m. on the right shoulder. A dump truck driver stopped and attempted to extinguish the fire, the CHP said. The fire’s size is not known. The 20-foot by 50-foot vegetation fire was reported around 9:25 p.m. at 360 N. Arroyo Blvd. There were no activities underway at the time the fire broke out, according to Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department. Several Pasadena Fire engines remained on scene after flames were extinguished to ensure no flareup occurred. The cause is under investigation. The suicidal woman was armed with a handgun and was holed up inside an apartment unit in the 1500 block of North Fairoaks Avenue. Police responded to the apartment complex at 5:38 a.m. and surrendered to authorities at 9:22 a.m., according to Lt. Mark Goodman of the Pasadena Police Department. No one was injured. A friend of the woman called police after the woman threatened herself, police. Police closed road traffic in the area of Penn Street and Howard Street during the barricade while crisis negotiators worked to help the woman surrender. A total of 43 firefighters, six engines, three trucks, two rescue ambulances, an arson investigator, two battalion chiefs and one deputy chief responded to the scene. The fire was knocked down in 42 minutes, according to the Pasadena Fire Department. Caldwell is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. No court date information is available. The fire burned inside the home at 30 W. Mountain St. around 10:30 p.m. Firefighters on scene requested a second-alarm response, which added additional firefighters. A total of 55 personnel fought flames and kept damage from spreading to additional homes, according to Pasadena Deputy Fire Chief Bryan Frieders. Flames were first seen coming from the second story of the vacant home, Frieders said. The fire was declared knocked down around 11 p.m. The home was previously damaged one year ago.
