CityWatch Editor PASADENA - No one was injured after a car crashed and became pinned under an open top trailer on the east 210 freeway Thursday. The crash occurred on the Mountain Avenue on ramp in Pasadena August 21 around 7:15 a.m. The driver of the black Toyota Camry was initially trapped but was able to free himself, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. A request to shut down all lanes of the on-ramp was made at 7:32 a.m. The closure was lifted at 7:53 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor PASADENA - All lanes of the transition road from the westbound 210 freeway to the westbound 134 freeway will be closed for an unknown duration after a SUV slammed into the back of a big rig and burst into flames. A 20-foot box truck was apparently disabled and blocking middle lanes when the vehicle slammed into the rear of it and caught fire around 4:13 a.m. April 13, according to the California Highway Patrol. The SUV was apparently speeding just before the crash, CHP dispatch center was told. At least one person was discovered inside the burned out white SUV and was, as officers on scene described, “severely burned.” The traffic closure is beginning on the westbound 210 freeway at Lake Avenue. The HOV and No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the main line 210 freeway westbound are open to traffic. CityWatch Editor PASADENA - A man is being treated for injuries sustained after jumping from an overpass and onto the 210 freeway Thursday. Drivers reported a person climbing over the fencing near the Fair Oaks Avenue exit on the westbound side of the freeway around 2:45 p.m. April 3. Freeway traffic was stopped at the request of first responders, according to the California Highway Patrol. The man is described as being in his 20s to 30s, according to the Pasadena Fire Department. A Sig Alert was issued until the patient was treated and transported and first responders cleared traffic lanes. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor 1:38 p.m.: CHP has cancelled the Sig Alert on the 134 freeway after this morning’s deadly crash. All lanes are open. PASADENA - All lanes of the westbound 134 freeway at San Rafael Avenue remain closed for a fatal collision Sunday. All westbound traffic on the 210 freeway to the west 134 is being diverted off at Fairoaks Avenue. Lanes are expected to be closed for four to eight hours, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision occurred around 8:12 a.m. January 5. It is not quite clear yet exactly how many vehicles were involved in the initial crash. The first reports indicated that possibly as many as four vehicles were involved. The incident started with a report of a vehicle entering the westbound 134 while traveling eastbound at San Rafael Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. A witness to the crash told CHP dispatchers that one of the vehicles exploded after crashing, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Requests have been made for tow trucks to haul away at least six vehicles for evidence. UPDATE: At 8:42 a.m. the Sig Alert was cancelled, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - Nearly 12 hours after going into effect, a Sig Alert on the westbound, 210 freeway near Lake Avenue remains mostly in effect after a manufactured home being towed became dislodged and fell into traffic lanes. All lanes, except the HOV and No. 1 lane of the West 210 freeway just east of Lake Avenue remain closed, according to Officer Garcia of the California Highway Patrol. At 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, the Sig Alert was extended for possibly an additional two hours, Garcia told SGV CityWatch. The crash was reported to the CHP around 6:53 PM Monday, June 24. After the home fell off of the trailer, the trailer of another semi was damaged after striking the manufactured home. A white Honda SUV crashed into the home as well. Minor injuries were reported, according to the Pasadena Fire Department.

PASADENA – Stunning video was recently released in the investigation into a deadly police shooting of a carjacking suspect.
Adam Youines, a 35-year-old transient from the Montebello area was shot and killed by Pasadena Police as he inched the stolen minivan at officers. Youines allegedly took a white 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan at gunpoint during a carjacking just before 11:30 p.m. at East Mountain Street and North El Molino Avenue. Two hours later, the minivan was caught on a red light camera speeding through North Garfield Avenue and Via Campo in Montebello, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies found the vehicle a short time later and pursued the driver after he allegedly failed to stop. The reckless driver forced deputies to stop the pursuit at the 605 and I-10 freeways.
Monrovia officers attempted to stop the driver in their city after he was witnessed driving erratically and another pursuit began. The California Highway Patrol assisted with the chase once it entered the freeway. Monrovia officers chased the suspect for 18 minutes in Pasadena, before Pasadena officers took over the chase. The suspect made attempts at stopping the minivan impossible with his high-speed reckless driving which took the pursuit into opposing lanes multiple times, according to the Pasadena Police Department. The suspect slowly stopped at a strip mall in the 600 block of North Lake Avenue where officers negotiated with him for eight minutes. The suspect was seen on video supplied by the Pasadena Police Department pointing a handgun at his own head. He repeatedly wanted officers to kill him, even after dispatchers got his mother to speak with him. Officers blocked all exits from the strip mall and ordered the suspect to surrender, but he inched the minivan at officers stationed at a parking lot exit and officers opened fire, killing Youines at the scene. Adam Youines, 35, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Youines inched the vehicle he drove towards Pasadena officers after he stopped in a strip mall parking lot in the 600 block of North Lake Avenue. Officers were compelled to fire their weapons repeatedly at him. He died at the scene. Towards the end of the pursuit, Youines could be seen in a video holding a gun to his own head. He reportedly made demands to speak to his mother. Youines was described as an armed carjacking suspect who initially led Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit in South El Monte. The pursuit reportedly lasted only minutes before it was cancelled after a deputy crashed into another vehicle before 2 a.m. Youines continued to evade authorities along surface streets and freeways in the Monrovia, Acadia and Pasadena areas. The California Highway Patrol ended their portion of the pursuit when Youines kept to surface streets. Pasadena Police began pursuing the suspect at 2:25 a.m. Monrovia Police trailed Pasadena officers who continued to pursue Youines until he stopped in the strip mall parking lot. “Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit responded to the crime scene to commence an immediate follow-up investigation,” according to the Pasadena Police Department in a written statement. The crash involving the deputy occurred at Rosemead Boulevard and Glendon Way in Rosemead. The deputy, who was en route to the chase on the 605 freeway, was briefly hospitalized. The other driver was reportedly uninjured. A one-hour Sig Alert was issued at 5:56 p.m. April 6. The pedestrian was found just before 5:30 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. It is not yet clear how the pedestrian died. Officer Ramon Kendricks of the California Highway Patrol traffic Management Center could not yet confirm if the victim is a man, woman, nor the possible age range. PASADENA – One person was killed in a crash on the 210 freeway early Monday. The westbound No. 4 and 5 lanes are expected to reopen by 8:30 a.m. after having originally closed by about 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The fatal crash occurred around 2:35 a.m. February 7. Few details are available, other than the collision was reported around the Lake Avenue off ramp on the westbound 210 freeway. The California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center still has no other details, including how many vehicles were involved, or if it was a pedestrian killed, according to CHP Officer Moises Marroquin. Temple City teens Andyn Bae, 17, and Eric Gullekson, 16, died at the scene. Nicholas Torres, a 17-year-old Monterey Park resident died after being hospitalized. The crash occurred around 8:25 p.m. Sunday on Michillinda Avenue south of Foothill Boulevard. Bae was driving the 2005 Honda south on Michillinda when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into a raised concrete curb, bounced and hit a chain link fence, crashed into a dirt/shrub embankment and rolled over, according to the California Highway Patrol. It is unclear as of Tuesday whether alcohol and/or drugs contributed to the crash. |
