Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A suspected DUI driver is accused of fleeing police on surface streets and freeways as far as Burbank and back east through Pasadena where the suspect crashed Saturday.
The suspect fled, with a passenger, when officers attempted a traffic stop on a speeding driver in the 1000 block of West Arrow Highway around 2:42 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The pursuit entered the west 210 freeway, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. The driver exited the west 134 freeway onto South Buena Vista Street in Burbank and headed back east on the freeways. A set of spike strips deployed by the California Highway Patrol disabled the vehicle, which hit the center divider and stopped on the east 210 freeway west of Sierra Madre in Pasadena, Celello told SGV CityWatch. A female passenger exited and was detained. She was hospitalized and will not face charges, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male driver initially refused to exit the vehicle, so a Monrovia Police Department SWAT vehicle was called to help in detaining the male who eventually surrendered, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male was cited, released in the field and was hospitalized. He is facing charges including evading officers and driving under the influence, Celello told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A friend checking up on a man living in an RV parked near a 99 Cents Only Store May 6 discovered the man dead, according to the Glendora Police Department.
The 65-year-old man was found dead inside his RV in the store’s lot, 1788 S. Barranca Ave. First responders were called at 4:37 p.m. who declared the man dead, according to Lt. Mike Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner will determine cause of death. Family of the dead man agreed to arrange to have the RV towed from the 99 Cents Only Store lot. It remained there as of Sunday, May 7. “One of the students overheard somebody say something to the effect of ‘I have a gun’ and that’s all they heard,” according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. “There was no clarification to what kind of gun it was and there was no clarification as to where that gun was.” Police were dispatched to Arrow High School, 1505 S. sunflower Ave., around 10:32 a.m. Friday, March 17. The student who overheard the talk of a weapon wasn’t able to identify the student who said it. Officers and detectives finally cleared the school at 12:32 p.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A man and woman made a paltry attempt at evading police, but were ultimately taken into custody after a pursuit from Glendora to Irwindale February 17.
During the pursuit, a passenger tossed a handgun from the vehicle on the westbound 210 freeway just before the 605 freeway interchange. Officers ultimately recovered the gun, as well as narcotics and instruments described as burglary tools, according to the Glendora Police Department. The department’s Community Impact Team and detectives were conducting enforcement patrols in areas saturated by community complaints of drug sales occurring. A traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle whose driver reportedly committed several vehicle code violations, but the driver refused to stop, according to the Glendora Police Department. The driver and passenger were taken into custody. Arrested were Julia Victoria Barbosa, 24, and Joseph Jesse Marquez, 21. Barbosa was booked on suspicion of evading an officer with wonton disregard for public safety, identity theft, possessing a controlled substance, possessing burglary tools and a probation violation, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez was booked on suspicion of possessing counterfeit items, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez posted $50,000 bail and was released February 19. Barbosa is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. She has pending future court date from a previous crime. Officers and Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the 200 block of South Vista Bonita Avenue around 8:49 p.m. Officers were called to a report of gunfire heard and located the wounded man. The vehicle is parked on the street, according to Lt. Mike Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. The 200 block of Vista Bonita remains closed for a death investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - The uninjured driver accused of crashing into a garage and severing a gas line that ignited a destructive fire Wednesday was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI.
Wanda Lewis, 52, was arrested at 5:16 p.m. She was booked at 6:26 p.m. and later released on a citation at 8:30 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Lewis was the only occupant of the SUV that smashed into a garage in the 2400 of Curtis Court December 28, according to Sgt. Josh Price of the Glendora Police Department. Lewis was able to free herself from the twisted wreck before the gas line ignited, Price told SGV CityWatch. The crash and fire heavily damaged a garage, burning property inside and burning the crashed SUV. As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, other firefighters worked to pull the SUV off the gas line that fed the flames that burned the garage and crashed SUV. Court date information for Lewis was not readily available. Two alleged thieves were caught in the 700 block of East Essex Street early November 29. A resident witnessed suspicious activity and called for officers, according to the Glendora Police Department. Veronica Diaz, 26, and David Lee Harnden, 38, were both arrested. Harnden was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the West Covina courthouse December 20. Booking information for Diaz was not readily available. Tywan Lamont Brown, 25, DiJonn Cooper, 25, and Amber Dayanara Echeverria, 20, had charges officially filed against them November 14 by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Echeverria was additionally charged with felony evading. Cooper was additionally charged with carrying a loaded firearm in a public place or vehicle, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Police gave chase to the three suspects who fled the scene of a residential burglary in the 100 block of North Catherine Park Drive just before 3 p.m. The driver refused to stop and led police on a chase until the driver crashed at Glendora Avenue and Route 66. Brown and Cooper allegedly ran from the crashed vehicle, leaving Echeverria behind. A multi-agency search helped to corral the suspects hiding in a yard in the 600 block of South Minnesota Avenue. Cooper and Brown are being held in lieu of nearly $1.3 million bail. Echeverria posted bond and was released November 16. All three suspects are scheduled for an appearance in the West Covina Courthouse November 28. Los Angeles County Firefighters Report that one person died at the scene, according to radio traffic. One patient was extricated and transported in full arrest. The closure affects the 1400 block of East Route 66, which is just west of Compromise Line Road. The Glendora Police Department issued a message to warn drivers of the road closure. |
